I don't know what to tell you about what you can expect in terms of weight loss but I wanted to tell you i had surgery almost 3 months ago to correct candy cane syndrome. I was in pain virtually all the time. I do have a question for you. Did your surgeon tell you the reason you have candy cane is DEFINITELY due to a mistake your original surgeon made? If the surgeon makes the afferent limb to long at the orginal surgery, I know you can develop candy cane syndrome. The afferent limb should be made to be about 1-2 inches. From my research, one can still end up with it, even if the surgeon makes the afferent limb the correct size at the original surgery. Mine was found only 2 months after surgery. It is a VERY rare complication with one only having a 0.4 -1% chance of developing this condition. I'm anxious to hear what your surgeon told you about it. Thanks.

Hi AnimalLover:

All my surgeon said about it was the original surgeon "left this behind". His words "He left this behind, it's called a candy cane." Mine is about 6 inches long. I don't know if that could "develop" or not. I haven't heard of a "candy cane" until the day he told me I had one. I don't know if that helped or not. Hope it did.

How did surgery go last month? You should be 4+ weeks post-op so hoping your recovery is going well. We'd love an update if you're up to it.

Hi: My surgery was very long. He ran into issues he didn't expect. My diaphram had a huge hole in it...which really shocked him...the only thing holding my insides in place was a piece of mesh from hernia repair and a lot of adhesions. He had to remove a LARGE piece of mesh, plus repair the hole in my diaphragm. He said it was as big as a fist. I have LOTS of adhesions he had to remove as they were restricting my intestines, bladder and other organs. I wound up losing two large portions of intestine, along with 2/3 of my stomach because of ulcers and damage caused by the adhesions. What was going to be a 30-45 minute procedure turned into well over 3 hours. Fortunately, I bounced back quickly and was released from the hospital in a little over 24 hours.

Recovery has been slow and painful. I injured my foot about 2 weeks out and have been in a "boot" up to my knee ever since, on my right foot. I still have not been released to exercise. I am getting in about 600 calories a day and struggling to get in enough protein. I am following precise written instructions from my doctor. I have a daily menu to follow...and am not allowed to deviate from it. (I tried and it was painful) I have about a week and a half left of "pureed" foods, then I can move on to the next menu. That one will also last about 2 weeks and then I will finally be able to incorporate regular food into my diet slowly. Right now "Gerber" is getting most my grocery money. LOL

On an upnote: I am down almost 25 pounds since surgery on Sept. 5.

Surgery was long, and recovery has been rough. It wasn't a typical revision. The doctor thought it would take 45 minutes but I was in surgery over 3 hours. I had A LOT of issues, so my recovery has been harder. I'm down 30 pounds since surgery, I would be down more but I had two more surgeries...but these were on my foot and I've been immobile. I am now starting to get around so weight should come off better. :-) Thanks for asking.

So sorry the surgery snd recovery were hard. Were there any complications other than it being a revision? Wish you the best luck going forward.

Your case sounds a lot like mine. I have to convert from Sleeve to RuNY, then get surgery on both my foot and knee!

Mine didn't start out as a "revision" all the way to begin with...it being a revision was a bonus. LOL I had lots of ulcers...in my stomach pouch and my intestines. As well as adhesions, and a couple of hernias. My stomach pouch had elongated...and had to be reconstructed. My stoma was perfect but with the LONG stomach instead of round, my food was passing straight through. I had ulcers around the stoma, and at the top of the pouch as well. I also had several areas that were ulcerated throughout my intestines. All in all I lost about 12 inches of intestine, as well as had to have adhesions removed, hernias fixed and most of my pouch cut out due to ulcers. So my pouch that had stretched to about the size of a baseball, is now the size of an egg, and I'm able to eat some solid food but not much. Everyday is an adventure. I feel truly blessed to have found my surgeon and gotten the surgery so I'm not now nor will I ever complain. I'm even thankful when I throw up. LOL My body is absorbing nutrients better now and a lot of my prior health problems have resolved. I can't be thankful enough for this second chance.
