Revision at Normal BMI
I am from North Fort Worth. I had the sleeve done in 2009 and revised to the bypass in 2013 and now due to complications about to have another bypass revision in December. After bypass I had to do vitamin infusions for a long time, had horrible issues with my bowels for over a year, like uncontrollable issues. The hair loss was bad for a good year or two but after changing my diet to 90% protein it seemed to help slow down the hair loss. I don't regret doing it though. The weight loss fixed other things for me especially my depression. I'd do it all over again even knowing all the issues I went through with it. I'm scared that having a revision surgery will bring all these same issues back.
I'm so sorry to hear about your complications! Do you mind if I ask what the complications were? This is what I'm scared about, having a revision to bypass? Was it intestinal blockage? Yikes!
And, what doctor do you see? I'm in Dallas area. You can message me too if you prefer. Thanks!
hello your post spoke to me and it may be because i am so soon out of my revision - oct 1. but i have felt a bit more down then usual and more aggravated then normal. dont want to get out of bed etc but push myself to do so. i am on anti depressants but i am wondering if they may not be absorbing the same way as before. i am seeing surgeon today and i hope there will be a turn around. this is the medicine i have been on for about 5 years during the whole time had the sleeve so it might just be short lived. i am so glad your depression has been relieved. mine was too but i just dont want it creeping back in.
You will not lose a lot of weight with a revision, especially if you have a normal BMI. You're body is smart. I had my revision 3 months ago and have only lost about 7 lbs. My BMI is 26. I am definitely not wasting away to nothing (well according to some people I am but I just ignore their comments).
Interesting! I just heard this from someone else, who said our bodies remember the weight we were at and can't be tricked a 2nd time. But, that's crazy....did you lose faster w/the sleeve?
Would you do the revision again? Any complications?
I had a revision from VSG to RNY on 10/15/18. I had a LOT of adhesions (my sleeve was stuck to my diaphragm and liver as was my small bowels). I also had an internal hernia repair. I had a lot of pain post op, but related to the adhesions. I had a hard time getting fluids/food down for about 6 weeks then it felt like overnight I got better. I could drink more and get more down at one time. I am generally feeling pretty good. I have lost about 20 lbs since the revision. My BMI is around 28. The funny thing is I have not lost any weight in the past 3 weeks. I would like to loose another 10 lbs, but seems I am in a big rut. I don't want to starve to get there, but I would have thought I would loose more.
