Hey, have any of you had a RNY revision to lap band? I am in the works to get this done, and anyone i talk to tells me its a horrible idea and i am beginning to freak out. Why would by surgeon do this surgery if, according to everyone, it is a horrible idea??

I would wish the crap band on anyone. That is what I originally had and the damage it caused was awful. Then I revised to the bypass.

Why does your surgeon what to place a band in? Most are no longer doing them at all.

Hi,

I have had a lapband, sleeve and now a bypass so I speak from experience. Are you sure he is doing a Lapband? There are other surgeries to reduce pouch size. I don't even know how it is technically possible to do this since your pouch for RNY has a staple line so you still have the rest of your stomach intact. Not a doctor so I don't know how this procedure would actually be done but have you considered a Stomaphyx procedure? Don't know the success rate of this. The lapband caused so many problems for me and slipped requiring me to revise to sleeve. The sleeve caused reflux problems which 9 years later I was having a RNY. Think carefully about this.

Hi Thanks!

I have no regrets. Each decision I made over 15 years and three surgeries was based on data available to me that showed it would be the best choice at the time. There was no way that anyone could know that that a band would slip (we know differently now) or prolapse, that the sleeve would cause chronic reflux and need to be taken out etc... The one thing I do hope for is a "PILL" that does the trick for people in the future rather than surgical alternatives!!

I just had my lap band removed last week after 11 years with it. My gastroenterologist said it caused so much damage to my stomach and esophagus.... I am still considering Revision when everything is healed, but my surgeon said my stomach was so swollen and the lapband had slipped to the point of cutting off my small intestines. Very strange to see a revision from RNY to lapband
