VSG -> DS

Sooooo, taking the leap, finally. We'll see how it goes.

I'm still mulling over the SADI vs. the DS. Yes, yes, I know the DS has been around 30+ and the SADI 10ish. However, after reading waaaaay too many surgical studies (about 400 or so) and talking to 12 different surgeons, six of whom do both (hey, I'll use my health care connections however I can), I actually am not sure that the SADI is really...that bad?

I also have seen several clients with both and I tracked down many of the individuals who've had it for over seven years. The weight loss is slightly less on average (about 7% in extreme cases), however I am not very concerned. It's been my observation that the difference comes down to habit rather than surgery, much as there's really no practical difference between a 36F vs 40F bougie if you are snorting twinkies with chasers of caramel all day.

It's certainly been an enlightening experience, though, and I can safely say I now know way more about weight loss surgery than I ever wanted. heh.

It's interesting to go through the process being a therapist. I am about to start pre-op clearances within the next month, so we will see how it goes.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Just saw my awesome bariatrician, and he gave me the OK to start the pre-op testing, since it's good for a year. I realllly hope I don't need to get another EGD.

I wrote my PCP for the referrals, and will be making appointments shortly. So far, have psych, cardiac, and pulmonary for sure - everything else at the surgeon's request.

Tomorrow I will be getting the first round of blood work done. I requested PTH and ferritin to be tested for a baseline comparison after I have malabsorption, and will also likely get a DEXA, as well, to keep an eye on my bones.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I'm lucky it wasn't because I'd probably have suffocated on it....

If I knew it was a thing, all my old pictures would have shown twinkie and caramel residue under my nose.
