I was a revision from band to bypass and was in an out in 90 minutes...off painkillers by day 2 and cooking thanksgiving dinner for my extended family on day 5.

I felt weaker the first few weeks because of the extreme calorie restriction in the liquids and soft stages. but once I could eat again and was upping calories to closer to 800 I felt totally normal. I was doing rides at universal and walking 20k steps a day by 8 weeks post op.

I find in the earlier stages people feel unwell mostly due to dehydration. I'm at 100 oz of water a day now at 6 months postop and eat between 1000-1100 calories a day.

90 minutes is not too bad. I had a big issue drinking water after my first surgery. I hope I don't have the same issue.

I think everyone does in the first weeks post op. I think it is the healing that does that.

Linx has been shown to help reflux, but I would be concerned (and my surgeon validated my concerns) that it could lead to complications similar to those with a lapband. It encircles the esophagus . . . I would be concerned with erosion into the esophagus itself. Revise to RNY, it is the best option to get rid of your GERD

That is my exact concern with the Linx. I am now leaning towards the Bypass. Trying to do some research on it (pros vs cons).

I had the LINX System installed 3 years ago. The first year it worked great and I was off PPIs but since then my GERD has returned and I'm back on Prilosec. The device hasn't moved or caused any complications. I recently had a Mini Gastric Bypass and have noticed a reduction in my GERD symptoms already. I don't think you should have a VSG and LINX installed; instead, consider a revision to RNY or MGB. Good luck!

Thank you. I decided to have the revision to bypass. My surgery is scheduled for May 9th.

Wow, thank you everybody for such great input. I am supposed to see my new surgeon at the end of May, but I'm calling Monday to see if I can move up the appointment (they initially offered me late April). I really wanted to try hard on my own to lose a lot more weight and see if the reflux would calm down, but I've lost some already and the reflux is no better. I don't want to find myself at the end of July or August with reflux that is no better and not enough time to do surgery. I start my PhD program at the end of August and the first semester will be mostly book work so I'll be fine, but I don't want to be in the liquid phase or wore out from healing when classes start.

I'm sure the first step is EGD, which the surgeon insists on doing himself, rather than my GI. I'm ok with that though, because at least he will be able to give me accurate information about my sleeve, etc.

Actually getting somewhat excited about this process, I feel like I'm going to be in better control this time around too, and will do EVERYTHING by the book to eliminate my GERD and my regain.

Thanks again

Hi, I have the exact same issue. I have also regained 60 lbs. and I see my surgeon this month he's going to explain the revision surgery. I also don't want to have it done and keep thinking about it. I do suffer from acid re flux and have damage to my esophagus. So health wise it would be ideal. I also suffer from sleep apena, which I feel is due to the excess weight I'm carrying.

It's so not what I thought I would be going through. I hope you get relief too. It seems to be very common with the VSG. If I had known I would have just opted for bypass to begin with.
