I've been eating steak since 3 months post op. I was eating chili in my soft food stage. So I think the sensitivity is person to person. i'd talk to the doctor about your concerns. I was concerned about dumping with fat because I love avocado and salmon etc. doc said...nope that wont be a problem...his patients who dump are doing things like eating a bowl of pasta, waiting 20 mins and eating another. or eating a pint of ice cream in a sitting...Um yeah...not worried I'll be doing that so all good.

You can eat all the red meat you want. You will lose a bit due to the initial malabsorption of calories. To maintain the loss you will need to reduce calories.

I too am so appreciative to see the responses on this thread. I am not CRAZY about a revision either, but I really want to get off the meds. I am fearful of the long term issues with PPIs related to dementia. At this point I have been on a PPI for about 10 years.

I will do what ever I have to do. I will do the second surgery if that's my option. I fear not being able to eat certain foods, but hopefully i'll be ok and I'll just have to deal with whatever I get. My health at this point has GOT to be my #1 focus, and I agree that esophageal cancer is no joke. I'll deal with skipping certain foods if it gets my weight FINALLY to goal and eliminates my GERD issues.

My major obstacle is that in the fall, I begin my PhD program and at that point I'll be heavily tied up with class requirements for about 20 months, so I'm really hopeful that when I see my surgeon in May, we can get the ball rolling and get surgery at least by mid-July. I would love at least 4 weeks to heal up before school, although the first two semesters is pretty much all lecture/tests.

I hope you get the revision quickly to get on your PhD program. I am hopefully on my way. Just a lot to wrap my head around. Head hunger and not eating really took me down last time. We got this right??

I had the VSG to RNY surgery for bile reflux on 3/29/17. I can sleep lying down! I also had a hiatal hernia repair also. I am doing well so far. I've lost about 12 pounds so far (lots of fluid from surgery) and I expect to lose the remaining 18-20 pounds I gained due to the hernia.
