Insurance approval- head hunger- time off work
I'm very excited today! It has been a long road to this point but I finally have approval to have my band removed and to revise to RNY! I honestly thought it would never come. Now I'm trying to work on head hunger and cravings until my surgery. I don't have a date yet but I'm a teacher amd I'm hoping that it can be done this summer. Are there any high school teachers out there that have had the surgery during the school year? How quickly were you able to get back to work?

I'm just chiming in because I read your post. I was banded in 2006 and just got approved for the revision to rny.
I lost 40lbs with the band and gained it all back. All the while I had reflux, adjusted the band a few times until I had to finally have all the fluid removed. While my high blood pressure did not return, my sleep apnea did... with a vengence. My liver enzymes are on the rise, which indicates fatty liver (got a new gastro dr, yea ).
I went through testing again and my surgeon put in for insurance approval for my revision. He did say that most of the time they come back with a rejection but he would follow up with a peer review and do his best to plead my case. In my case they came back only 2 weeks later with an approval.
So with that said, you should go back to your weight dr (or find a new one) and let them know what is going on with you. Also ask if your insurance company rejects if that is the end of the process or if they would do a peer review and give it another shot. I am of the opinion that there are many of us banded folks that didn't do too well with the band.
Good luck and I hope I've been helpful.

Hi, I had a band and serious issues that did not resolve until I had it removed in 2013. Now I'm going through the long process again of the six month diet, psychological clearance etc. I have all appointments set, but won't be approved u til most likely December... Which stinks bc I'm a middle school teacher! I am getting bypass (RNY) but so afraid of the lack of bathroom in my classroom when I return!
my doc told me to take the full 4 weeks off and not to experiment at school with any new foods..ever.
still worried.... But so excited about this new adventure ???
good luck to you! I hope you are able to get surgery before summer break is over!
Just found out it will be September 23rd. I'll hope for the best! Good luck to you as well.

I am a teacher and returned to work after 2 weeks. I was tired and took naps every day when I got home for a while, but it was not too bad.
