Thank you for such a well thought out answer. I appreciate your time ! Unfortunately I live in an area here in Western NC where there is no one doing a DS. I am glad you are having such a great outcome!

I have a DS, which has the sleeved stomach identical to a stand alone sleeve. I had terrible gerd prior to surgery, and haven't had even one episode in over 8 years now. 

It depends on what is causing your gerd, but many of us have a hernia causing issues, and also just the excess weight can cause gerd. You also need to have an experienced surgeon with other happy sleevers, as some are making the stand alone sleeves so teeny that it causes problems. 

Considering the sleeve and RNY have the same weight loss stats at 5 years out, but RNY has more issues like higher incidence of dumping and reactive hypoglycemia, there is no way I'd get RNY over the sleeve. I'm keeping my own pyloric valve!
