My surgery went pretty well, no complications. I'm now 2 days post opt and feel pretty good. Today was the first day i had any fluids what so ever and if course it runs right through you and that's to be expected. I don't regret the revised surgery thus far.

Revision on 08/29/16

Please share with me your experience. Im scheduled to be in Mexico 08/28 and surgery 08/29 for revision from gastric sleeve to gastric bypass. My sleeve was done in Atlanta GA and worked fine for the last 3 yrs. However I have gained 30lbs and my acid reflux is terrible. I wake up choking( its bad). However my insurance does not pay for revision so Im headed to Mexico. Im using Pompeii Surgical Dr. Q.

I start my pre-op diet 08/15.

You and me both. I have a sleeve with GERD too. It's like heartburn from another realm isn't it? Anyways, I really really don't want the RNY but that's all I'm hearing as a solution. There seem to be many a people on this board with the same revision, and very happy with it, so good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yes, the gerd is terrible. The reflux I have while sleeping is the scariest for me. My insurance denied the surgery so I just mailed my appeal yesterday.....If I could do it over I would have done the rny. Best of luck.

I hope you don't mind me asking , but did you have reflux before the vsg or after? I have it now and plan on having the vsg on 9/26/16, but with all the post about having to be revised is scaring me. I'm afraid to have the rny because of all the complications I've seen about the rny, but this is bad too.

RNY on 06/03/15

a lot of people don't have any complications at all with the RNY - and for those who do, they're usually minor (like strictures).  You do have to be really diligent on keeping up with your vitamins, though, or you could get really sick.

I think it sounds like a lot of people have complications because those with complications are more likely to post about them.  People who never have any issues and are really happy with their surgery aren't as public about it.  The same is true of VSG, really.  Lots of people post about acid reflux so it sounds like everyone has it - but  know that's not true.

Lorilight,

I never had acid reflux prior. I am still waiting on a decision from my insurance company on my appeal. If they deny it I'm not sure what I will do. Everyone is different with this surgery but for me I would have originally done the rny if I could go back in time. I woke up this morning with so much chest pain I considered having my husband take me to the Er. After I got up and burped about 15 times the pain was gone. It doesn't matter what I do I still have the indigestion and reflux. Actually, it's worse when I eat healthy. Best of luck to you. If it helps, my sister had rny 10 years ago and has done an excellent job and she has no regrets.

Hi Janet, Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about your suffering with acid reflux. It's not fun that's for sure. Little past history... Back in 2009 my highest weight was 392 lbs. I had acid reflux severely back then I lost 240 lbs  with diet, exercise, and a lot of discipline. It took me 4yrs to accomplish that, but well worth it. Not only did that resolve my acid reflux, but it resolve my High blood pressure, sleep apnea, and type2 diabetes. Sad to say I went from 152 lbs back up to 299.2 lbs over the last 3yrs. Not making excuses for myself, but with the stress of being a nurse and grieving the loss of my best friend (my mother) I started eating poorly again and here I am. I started having flare Up's of acid reflux again about 3mos ago. I feel at this point in my life the only option I have for myself is wls. I tried to lose it myself, but have been unsuccessful this time. Not sure, but  I think my metabolism has bottom out.

Don't beat yourself up. You'll find that the wls isn't a magic bullet and you will always have to work for the wls to be successful. Wls is NOT the easy way out, it takes overcoming a lot of fears and working towards a healthier you. If you eat due to stress that won't change and you will always work to find healthy ways to overcome this. I am a stress eater and a carbaholic and I have to always be aware of that. My point is even with surgery we all work very hard and should always be proud of our success and not feel like we did anything wrong or took "the easy way out". :) Good Luck.
