Revision? Would you do it?
I had lapband 9 years ago and have had my ups and downs with it. I am getting worried about the longer term effects and am considering removing it and getting the sleeve. Don't know if I just need a mental adjustment as I've gained back all of my weight. (I have the money). My hubby also needs WLS but not sure of his level of commitment yet. What would you do?
Thanks,
Jeanie
I, as well as hundreds just on these boards have suffered exactly what you are going through. I'm 4 weeks out from revision from my hateful lapband that was a temporary weight loss aid... Not long term that it was promised to be. I'm loving my rny and have been reading these boards for years and the general consensus is get that thing out and revise!!!! My dr did not do a sleeve on me because of my reflux problems as well as damage the band did. Your surgeon will be able to tell you what's best for you! It's well worth it ! You will be so relieved to have it gone and an actual chance at reaching AND maintaining long term health ! Good luck to you .

Just wanted to add that statisticly it is near impossible to re lose. All the regain with out surgical intervention . So a mental adjustment is probably not the problem. If you are like most, the band has caused you to not be able to physically eat well .

I would revise as well. Have you considered the DS? If you gained the weight back with your band it is unlikely that another restrictive only procedure will allow you to lose and keep the weight off. You most likely need the malabsorption of the DS or RNY. Really investigate the difference between the two surgeries and pick the best one for you. Good Luck!
Hey I'm sorta in the same boat. I had the realize band almost 7 ago and removed 4 years ago because of a really bad slip. I've been contemplating another surgery since I had my band taken out, but I thought I could control my weight. 160lb gain later I'm considering the sleeve or maybe SIPS... I will talk to my surgeon and see what's best for my case. I can't tell you that you should defiantly do it because I believe that is a decision you must make, but I know for me I should of had the surgery years ago.
Hi, I had a sle in 2011, lost a lot want to go ahead after reading about others .Started regaining last year and im back where I started. In fact I get my surgery date Monday Im having the ds. At first I was going to have RNY, but after researching I choose to have the DS. Im anxious because my health is going downhill. I cant give you advice just share what IM doing. I think you will find most people who have the option , have it done, Good luck in your searc h Sara
