ONE PROCEDURE OR TWO!!.

HI I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING THE "SEARCH THIS FORUM" BUT CANT SEEM TO GET QUITE WHAT I AM ASKING ABOUT...  I WANTED TO KNOW PEOPLE'S OPINION ON HAVING THE REVISION FROM BAND TO SLEEVE: DO YOU THINK HAVING THE SLEEVE DONE 6 WEEKS OR MORE AFTER BAND REMOVAL IS BETTER THAN HAVING THE BAND REVISION TO SLEEVE IN ONE PROCEDURE.  I HAVE READ ALOT ABOUT THE DOCTORS WHO WOULD RATHER DO IT IN ONE PROCEDURE AND OTHERS THAT LIKE TO DO IT IN TWO.  DOES WAITING MAKE IT LIKE A FIRST TIME SURGERY ?  DO YOU LOSE MORE WEIGHT? ECT..

I WAS SUPPOSE TO GET THE SLEEVE DONE AT THE SAME TIME AS REMOVAL BUT WHEN DOC WENT IN THE BAND (TO OUR SURPRISE) HAD SLIPPED AND HURT MY STOMACH, SO I WOKE UP UNSLEEVED .  THIS WAS EXPLAINED TO ME BEFORE I WENT UNDER BUT WE REALLY DIDN'T HAVE ANY REASON TO THINK SOMETHING WOULD BE WRONG //  UPPER GI SHOWED NO INDICATIONS OF SUCH.

HOWEVER, I WAS PREPARED AND JUST HAVE TO WAIT TIL MAY 24TH.  14 MORE DAYS.

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF WAITING WAS BETTER THAN NOT.

Hey girl! Well at least you got that crappy band out! I'm thinking probably a surgeon could give you the best answers since here we can only guess. So my thinking as far as everything being done in one or 2 procedures, I guess 1 would be better. Surgery is traumatic enough, then there's the adhesion thing, I don't think surgeons want to go in there more than once anyway.

However it depends on the condition of the patient too. Sometimes you find out about stuff when you're in there, like in your case, so 2 steps would be better. I've heard of others that have had their band erode into their esophagus or they had a large hernia, etc, etc, so those things had to be handled first. Best to be healed from that first. I'm guessing recovery from 1 procedure would be better than recovering from 2 or 3.

No, I don't think waiting is like surgery becomes a first timer. Your body knows it's not the first time, kinda like sex lol

Losing the weight is still up to you, not sure if your honeymoon period is the same, I'm guessing its not, just a different kind of honeymoon. Stay with the same rules as any vsg'r fresh from surgery. You should do ok. Cheers to a speedy recovery.

Girl your questions are not stupid! I know you must be crazy excited, so ask away!

Hmm, I really don't know the size. I think I did ask him once but I forgot his answer. I think he used whatever is considered average. I might ask him again when I go in for my labs next month, although it won't help you for right now.

My stomach matured definitely by now, but the amount it stretched? Not too sure, but it isn't much. It pretty much is what everyone runs into at 1 time or another & that's if I eat foods with a lot of carbs, yeah I can eat a lot. Slider foods pretty much slides on by, but always whenever I eat dense protein, it fills up right quick.

One thing I do try to keep in mind is to undereat my sleeve. Usually I'd have to slow down & listen to my body for those cues letting me know that I'm getting satisfied & if I go further, I'll get to full. I think only when you try to eat till fullness & going a little beyond it is when you start stretching it out, but it'll never go back to the size of your old stomach.

Good Luck on your upcoming surgery!

I GUESS IM GETTING CLOSE TO MY DATE AND JUST ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS FOR THE HELL OF IT..

I did ask about bougie size and the answer I received was in the end, it's a 32F.

But today I realize there is more to it than that.  10 surgeons can do a sleeves on 10 patients and they can all use a 32F bougie and you could still have 10 different sizes of sleeves.

The key is technique, not bougie size.

During surgery the anesthesiologist will put a tube down your throat and into your stomach... you are asleep, you won't be aware... and the surgeon cuts around the tube.. kinda like cut along the dotted line.  ;o))))))))

But, technique is an issue.

Picture this, a 2L bottle of soda and a pillowcase.  Put the soda bottle in the pillowcase and cut around the soda bottle.  You are using the soda bottle  to make sure you do not remove too much or too little of the pillowcase, right?

Well, some are going to pull the pillowcase very tight over the soda bottle and then cut, that will leave a smaller pillowcase.  Others will leave a little or a lot of slack around the pillowcase, that will leave a bigger pillowcase.  Make sense?

So technique is wayyyy more important than bougie size.

Also, my surgeon used a 34F bougie on me but... he oversews th staple line so that makes it smaller bringing it down to a 32F. See what I mean?

Now, if my surgeon told me he was going to use a 60F bougie I would have walked my butt on down the street to another surgeon.  Anything under 40F is ... spiffy. ;o)
