Band revision surgery
funny, the surgeon who did my revision from the band said the scar tissue is keeping me from getting the sleeve, and I had the bypass Oct. 12. Recovery has been nothing short of amazing. He even said I won't lose so much because I've had a bariatric surgery already but so far down 25lbs and feel wonderful. Can fit into all the clothes that didn't fit for a year. He thinks I can lose another 5-10lbs and if I lose more, it will be because of motivation and exercise. Good luck everyone. Feel good.
Lol. I lost 80 w the band, gained about 22. If I didn't have the band removed and bypass, would've been on my way to being obese once again. My ticker ?? doesn't reflect my current weight and that I'm 16 lbs to my goal. My surgeon actually told me something interesting. I will most likely not lose 50 more lbs because I've had surgery once before and that my age and metabolism will most likely keep me at my set point which is actually close to my goal weight of 150. That would be amazing. He said a person usually gains a lb a year. So I'm pretty much at my body's set point already. Having had the previous surgery is the key. If I had the sleeve or bypass originally, I would've lost more overall. Whether or not I keep it off is the question!
I feel great, so much happier w/o the band and so much more comfortable. M
I believe that it isn't likely for the sleeve to work if the band didn't because it works in a similar way, through restricting the amount of food you can eat.Gastric bypass works differently. It changes the digestive tract so less food is absorbed. It also can change the way our hormones to do with hunger levels work. Many people report after having gastric bypass the way they think and feel about food changes for the better. They ask the doctor " I know you operated on my stomach, but what did you do to my brain, i don't crave fatty food any more" That was a quote from a TV program called "The truth about Fat".
I just had my lap band removed only three days ago due to weight gain, reflux and unable to get the fluid adjustment correct. Too much and everything got stuck, not enough and I felt starving all the time and preferred soft foods which of course didn't satisfy me for long.My surgeon has advised me a y enroute gastric bypass as the next best option, as a sleeving probably wouldn't work as it works similarly to the lap band.I live in Australia by the way.
I wish you the best and I hope this helps.
My surgeon actually won't do bypass on a band patient. He said there is thickening of the tissue where he would cut for bypass. He also believes, and I agree, that the band promotes poor eating habits. As you said, we eat soft foods or foods in sauce so we don't get stuck. With the sleeve you don't have that issue. We will see!
I too had the band, for six years. I hardly lost anything, but dealt with pain and reflux. I had the band removed 8/14 and had a DS 11/14. 15 months later I've lost 140 pounds. No longer deal with pain or reflux. I eat fairly normally, however I still limit my carbs to under 50 a day. I can and am encouraged to eat full fat cheese, full fat meats, full fat yogurt, etc. I truly have no complaints and have never felt better. I feel as though the DS surgery reset my metabolism. There are many successful options available to you. Best wishes on your journey.
