Over Eaters Annonymous?

has anyone tried OA in conjunction  with surgery?  I don't want to go through this again only to gain weight back. I was wondering if it would help. My surgeon only has support group meetings once a month.

If you have insurance, do yourself a HUGE favor and go to a therapist post-op or you know what will happen. Just knowing you are an 'emotional eater' (and I am not saying that you are, just using it as an example) isn't enough. Therapists will not want to give you meds (they can't) and they some are even trained especially in eating issues. It certainly cannot harm you and it may be a KEY to your staying thinner once and for all.

You might try OA, but I think knowing the reasons you sabotage your weight loss is a better idea.

And yes! I have been there and done that....$$$$ well spent and didn't take but a few sessions.

I tried that a few years ago, but not too many participate in my plan and have evening hours. The therapist I saw was not very helpful.

Yes!!! I absolutely go to OA and its saving my life. I had surgery, was extremely successful getting the weight off but then had a 70+ lb regain. I had been in therapy for years even through my weight gain. The only thing therapy did was make me aware of why I was gaining and taught coping mechanisms. It wasn't enough. I needed the structure, the life change, the support, the abstinence to really get me to a healthy point with food. I love OA, think everyone should at least give it a shot...if you want more info, want to talk about it etc please send me a PM and check out the last couple entries in my blog (in my signature) for what OA has done for me.

OA is a very good tool to help figure out why you are eating or what is eating you.   I highly recommend it.

I think anything you do to address your eating issues is going to benefit you in the long run.

If you were an alcoholic and needed a liver transplant going to AA would be a good idea because if we do what we did before surgery we will get the same results as before.
