Lapband 2008, looking at sleeve or RNY, your thoughts?
I had my band June 2008, lost 90 regained 40 due to esophageal dilation and slight slip. Had the band removed, hernia fixed scare tissue removed and the sleeve 7/08/15 all at once! I had to self pay for the sleeve portion, insurance paid for the removal portion of the surgery. Insuance would have paid for RNY but I was so adamant that I begged, borrowed and considered stealing to get the sleeve...jk on the stealing lol!
I must say that the sleeve is everything I thought the band would be. I wanted just a restrictive proceedue rather than malobsorbtion, I am a colorectal cancer survivor, had some of my colon resected and wand to leave what was left of my intestines, lost a family member to RNY complications years ago and wanted to have access to my stoma*****ase of stomach cancer ( lynch syndrome). I also only wanted to lose the 40 I gained plus an additional 15 and had no comorbidities.
Those where my persoal reasons and you have to do whats right for you, you will make the right decision when the time comes.
Lapband 6/08 90 pounds lost! Band slip and esophageal dilation diagnosed 5/15
LapBand removed, hernia repaired and sleeved 7/8/15
Thanks for the reply, I did go into his office asking for the sleeve and he did think it's be a good solution for me. I have been considering bypass's positives just to be sure on my orginal thoughts.
I too had a family member that had complications with his past bypass and live and lung cancer. In his case he was unable to eat as much needed for his body to stay in good function. malabsorption was an issue for him. It's important to note though his bypass was done in the 60s so I'm unsure that it was anything like what is done today.
