Twisted Stomach/Intestine after RNY
I recently discovered I have a complication called Twisted Stomach (or Twisted Intestine, depending on the Internet article)...it is causing a GREAT deal of discomfort and GI distress. My GI in Fort Worth (not a bariatric specialist) told me the solution was to eat foods like mashed potatoes or pudding. SERIOUSLY???? I had VERY successful weight loss after my original procedure, losing 100 pounds in a year and have maintained (except for 5-10 lbs.) for almost 7 years. However, I have NO intention of living with this condition, and am having an IMPOSSIBLE time trying to find a surgeon who will work on me. It is considered a revision, but NOT for weight loss failure. Since my BMI is only 25, the bariatric guys don't even want to talk to me. I don't want to go back to my original doctor, because I believe he made my pouch WAY too small (it is still only 5 cm). HOW do I find a doctor to help me?
Unfortunately, I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX area and will retire in 30 days...I simply cannot afford to make multiple trips to CA, not to mention recovery time before a flight back after revision. Appreciate the referral, but cost prohibitive for me. SURELY there are closer, excellent doctors - especially since Dallas is a HUGE medical center.
Contact Dr. David Provost in Denton. His number is 940-323-3450. He taught at UT Southwestern for years before opening his own bariatric practice in Denton. When I was researching who to use to remove my band and do my revision to RNY, his name kept coming up so I went to him and have been very pleased.

Haven't been to the doc yet - between selling my house, buying a new house, moving, having floors put down, etc. etc. etc. it had to take a back burner. Symptoms for me were debilitating reflux, extreme almost constant nausea, inability to eat more than 3-4 bites at a time (consequently I have to eat about 5 or 6 times a day), slight weight gain (I believe this is because the food is getting stuck in my stomach, so there's not as much malabsorbtion as there was previously), LOTS of gas and bloating. As soon as I learn more (hopefully within the next 3-4 weeks) I will post for those who are having similar issues.
I am almost 7 years out, and have had nearly every complication there is (gall stones, severe hypoglycemia, reflux, and now this stomach thing) but still grateful I had the surgery. I just think my surgeon made my pouch WAY too small (it is still only 5 cm, which is roughly 2 to 2-1/2 inches) and that has caused most of my issues. Am hoping there's a way to "dilate" my little pouch and make it a little larger. We will see!

UPDATE****UPDATE****UPDATE!!!!
I finally made an appointment with Dr. Ayoola in Denton, TX and he was very sympathetic and recommended we do another endoscopy to see what he could see. I had an appointment in September to go back, but had one of my extreme nausea episodes and had to reschedule. Saw him today, and discovered that I have something called a "Candy cane" Roux syndrome. It's an excess limb off of the esophagus, and sometimes food goes down the main limb, and sometimes it gets trapped in the excess limb, and that causes MANY of the same symptoms such as GERD, nausea, pain......I am SO grateful to have found this doctor! Next step is a barium test with solid barium (like barium scrambled eggs - sounds lovely, doesn't it?) to see what's going on, and then a very simple procedure to excise the excess limb. I will post follow up messages as I know more!
