Hi

I am contemplating a revision to DS from RNY.  I am 12 years post op.  I am 25 shy of my starting weight before surgery.  Started at 275 and got down to 160.  I slowly started gain but I manage to maintain 175 for about 6 years then 190 for about 2 years then just out of nowhere I balloon up to 20 pounds in 2 months with not much of a change n diet.  I tried diet pills that did not help much.  I then got pregnant in 2011. I gave birth in 2012 and 2013 and I have been trying to get back on track with not much success. I really didn't gain much from pregnancy (30 to 40 pounds)    I keep losing the same 10 pounds over and over.. Currently 250 and would love to get to 150-160. I was curious of how the revision went for you? Did Insurance pay?  Recovery?  How much did you lose?  Are you happy with your decision?  What vitamin regime do you now have?  Thanks.

My surgeon gave me phentermine.   I hate phentermine and it does nothing for me. I lose 10 then I  gain 10. Mirena IUD  was part of the problem. Had it removed and still trying. I have not gave up, but I'm still researching. I would love to do it without going  through another surgery.

Hi friend!

January 25, 2001 I had an open, Roux-en-Y, Proximal Plus Gastric Bypass. In 2 years I lost 186 lbs. Kept the bulk of that off until 2009. January 2009, my brother passed away, and it seemed the pounds started creeping back on. I tried Phentermine, Weigh****chers, Low Carb, etc... to no avail. I finally talked to Dr. Michael Ujiki with the Northshore University Health System (my PCP recommended him). He told me about the Endoscopic Gatro-Jejunostomy Revision Procedure (formerly known as Rose, sometimes known as Apollo). Insurance WILL pay for it, but it takes a lot of work. In fact, it's like going for the original bypass all over again. Even worse - because now everyone wants to know why the first surgery failed! It took about 4 months for me to do all the appointments, etc but in the end, my insurance (Blue Cross, Blue Shield) approved it. I JUST had it done yesterday! So far, so good. Have eaten less calories overall today than I sometimes would in a meal! Not sure what to think yet. I'm nervous, unsettled, and worried. Whatever you chose, I wish you all the best!

Hi. Thanks for your response. Congrats on your 2nd chance to get it right. I would love to know more as your progress. I kinda scared of surgery again but I really want to get this weight off. I now have plantar fasciitis in both feet and I wake up  everyday scared to step out of bed.  It has been 1 year of this pain in my feet. Doc said if I could lose some weight that May help. I also  have bcbs federal.

I was VERY torn about having this done. The success rate of this procedure can be so darn minimal. But I'm disgusted with how much weight I've put on now. My dream was to get to 200 lbs. I don't know that I'll ever see this. Well, maybe when I'm decomposing... *LMHO* But in all seriousness, at this point - I just want to lose enough weight that I can get around comfortably.

I LOVE walking. And with my current weight, walking hurts a LOT. I have such bad ankles and feet. And I don't care for swimming, or water aerobics. I might consider taking up biking - on a recumbent.

It's only the first day post procedure and I'm nervous as all get-out. Afraid I'll overeat. Worried because I've already felt hungry. But I can tell you already that prior to yesterday, my average caloric intake was 2500 calories a day easy. I didn't get to eat yesterday before the procedure (it was at 2pm). And when I got home I had some SF jello (made me sick too!) and 2 SF popsicles (for my throat). Today I've had a bit more, including a protein drink and some grits. Total calories today thus far (at 9:15): 590!

Hi, I'm just curious how you are progressing. I had the endoscopic  jejunostomy  revision 2 weeks ago. I'm just wondering what I should expect, I honestly don't feel like nothing has been done. I'm still on a liquid diet, so I guess I won't know until I start eating food again.l. I don't feel full with 4 oz  of liquid right now. In not hungry  but I definitely  don't feel the fullness!  I'm afraid of the unknown now!!!!

I'm not a revision patient, but I've been living with the DS for almost 12 years now. I LOVE it!  In the first 18 months, I lost around 150 pounds, and over the next couple of years I lost another 20 or so. Then, a couple of years ago, at TEN YEARS out, I started losing again and have lost another 25 pounds! I'm still not skinny, but I no longer stand out in a crowd. (*grin*)

I do take a lot of vitamins, 4 times a day, but it's become a habit and no big deal. It's very important that you get extensive labs drawn at least once a year, and adjust your dosages according to your results. We're all different, and there is no one plan that works for us all. I suggest you get a full set of labs done NOW, so if you're low in anything you can work on that before surgery. With your current RNY, odds are good that you're low on iron and B12.

it's also important to free yourself from the 'diet' mentality. Most DSers eat every 2-3 hours, all day long. We only absorb about half the protein we eat, and only 20% of the fat---so we need to eat a LOT of protein and fat. Never buy foods that have been made artificially low- or no-fat---the fat gets replaced with CARBS, and carbs really are the enemy.
