is this really slow loss or is it just me being paranoid?
I had a revision from RnY to DS on 5/27. I weighed 296 lbs on surgery day. I am right at 3 months post op now, and I have only lost 35 pounds.
My surgeon did tell me that revisions lose more slowly, but this seems ridiculously slow. I am a bit short in my daily protein .. getting in about 80g a day right now. I do generally get in all my fluids. I keep my carbs below 50g everyday as well. Why is the weight loss sooo slow? I'm trying so hard to follow all the rules, but my scale just refuses to go down! :)
If you are a revision to a DS please tell me what kind of rate of weight loss you had. I know we aren't supposed to compare our weight loss to others, but I really need to hear from other revisions instead of those fast virgin DS losers. Their rapid loss makes me feel like a failure already. Am I messing up somehow that I don't realize? Really afraid I will never see my goal weight at this rate.
Thanks!
Krystal
I can relate. I have only lost 40 pounds after having the RNY on 5/18. I had the band before. I am following the rules as well but it is a slow process. I do measurements monthly as well and my waist got slightly bigger this past month while my chest got smaller. Really??? I have to focus on all the extra energy I have and how I feel better since losing the 40 pounds. It may not be going as fast as I like but at least I am going down. Don't give up!!!
Thanks Catherine I appreciate the encouragement to keep at it. You're right ... the scale could be going the other way! I am going to try adding a protein shake to my diet this week to see if that little extra protein makes any difference at all. Never know :) I just hope our bodies decide to kick it up a notch soon!
I'm a revision from lap band to gastric bypass. My surgery was on May 18 and I have lost 37 pounds. I saw my surgeon last week and he was pleased with my loss. I told him that I was frustrated that I'm not losing like everyone else I see here at OH. He told me that they're not exactly sure why but revisions just lose more slowly. He said that I should still be able to make my goal weight, it's just going to take me a bit longer to get there. Keep your chin up! We can do this!
Losing a little over 10 lbs a month sounds like a good thing to me! That's 2 1/2 lbs a week that's a very respectable amount. I would just stick with your instructions and remember DSers need fats so make sure you are getting enough healthy fats like avacado and coconut oil. Just be patient you will get there.
You guys are awesome. I really needed to hear that the amount I have lost since surgery is a good enough number.
I believe I am just mentally comparing my loss now to my fast loss after the RnY. I need to keep reminding myself that this go around will be slow and steady instead of a fast race to goal.
Hmm ... I wonder if I am getting in enough fats. I don't really watch that like I do my protein and fluids. I should find an app for that :)
Thank you all for your kind words and advice. They are truly appreciated!
That's 25% of your excess weight. Sounds great to me!
BUT: You need to be realistic. The vast majority of WLS patients do not lose 100% of their excess weight, in part because a lot of formerly MO people have unrealistic goal weights. After having been MO for years, we have denser, heavier bones and muscles. a so-called 'normal' BMI isn't necessarily achievable or desirable for us. Focus on getting healthy, not skinny.
