Would you recommend distal gastric bypass over the DS?

Absolutely NOT. You'd still have a pouch and stoma, with all its potential problems, plus even MORE malabsorption than the average DS patient. I've heard the distal RNY described as "the worst of both worlds" by people who are living with one.

They really won't do them now unless it's medically necessary.  I am facing one in 4 weeks due to mechanical failures of my origional bypass.  This is pretty much a salvage operation for me now.
