3rd revision??

I am also trying to get a 3rd revision.  I wasn't sure if it was possible. I am looking forward to seeing a doctor, except I am not sure, if my insurance will cover it, since I have changed insurances from my last surgery.  I am praying that everything comes out right.  I am so disgusted with my self.  I had a roux en y in 2007, I didn't lose much weight, but I did gain what I lost plus more.  My back hurts so much from all the extra weight as well.

I hope your journey comes out well.  Please keep in touch.  God bless.

All weight loss surgeries are easy to eat around.  Permanent weight loss is only achieved by eating less calories than you are burning, permanently.

I am a member since mid 2014, but it breaks my heart when I read about posters who have revision after revision.  Why are they doing this to their bodies instead of addressing the food addiction problem and seeking counseling.  What irritates me also are weight loss surgeons willing to do revisions without addressing the addiction issue with the patient. I am not talking about revisions because of medical reasons. I am talking about doctors willing to do a second or third revision. Maybe they're looking for repeat business.

Exactly.  No surgeon should even entertain doing a THIRD surgery on someone who has had no mechanical failure without them going through some significant therapy to deal with the psychological and behavioral causes for their failure to lose the weight and maintain the loss.

hi, I just had my 3rd revision in mexico.  lapband in 2004, RNY in 08, and DS 2 weeks ago. My RNY was a mess and not done right. It's not always the patients fault :)

Not always, but some people need to take responsibility for their failure to lose weight:

"I DONT CARE IF SOME PERSON WITH A PIECE OF PAPER TOLD ME THAT I WAS GOING TO DIE IF I DIDNT DO THIS OR THAT, I LIVE FOR NOW. THAT'S HOW I WORK. AND IF I CHOOSE TO NOT TAKE A EFFIN VITAMIN SO BE IT. I RUN MY LIFE THE WAY I WANT TO RUN MY LIFE AND GUESS WHAT... I HAD MOM. THANKS YOU CAN'T REPLACE HER."

"I have never taken vitamins or supplements and the only thing that I'm low on is B12 but I cannot afford the shots or to even go to the doctor. Eh, I have different views on things and how I live is not really "approved" by others. I do everything a tad bit differently or per say backwards. Just the way I am. I'm as low income as they come."

"I've gained 50 pounds back and I drink alcohol like a fish. My eating habits are terrible and I can't seem to get back on track. I'm unable to  stop eating bad foods and drink alcohol."

"I called AA and I'm going to a meeting tomorrow at 7pm. Tonight, I will be attending an Over Eaters meeting at 5pm."

"I have a very tough time eating fruits or veggies. I vomit and therefore, I stick to foods that are easier on me but those choices are not good. I drink high protein insures because it is the only protein drink that I tolerate for taste. It has 210 Calories too many."

"I have issues eating a variety of foods but I can eat crackers, soups, cereal, fruit cups, jello... and I can eat chips, cake, a little pasta, candy! I eat  too much of the things that I can eat. I snack entirely too much."

"Also, I cannot eat solids that well. I eat soup everyday."

I never fault anyone for having a revision from a lap band.  It has been shown time and time again that it isn't much help and causes more problems then it cures.  I'm glad you got yours out.

And if your RNY wasn't done right then I am glad you got that fixed as well.  I don't think my first surgery was done right, either.  I had a complication of a blind limb, bacterial trapped in my intestines and proliferated and released toxins into my body.  I don't think that was intended and it was probably caused by my surgeons inexperience with the DS.

That said, no one should have to live with serious complications from WLS.  I don't believe that is the point of the surgery.  It is to restore health, not ruin it.  But some people do have serious complications and they need them addressed and fixed.

I am talking about a surgery that was done correctly and the person not complying with the basic rules to stay healthy.  I'm not blaming anyone for failing, I don't think anyone goes into this with the intention of not doing everything they can to be successful.  I just think that some people place too much expectations on the surgery and none on themselves.

I take full responsibility for every bite I took.  No one forced me to eat anything.  I knew better and yet I did it anyway.  And I paid a price.  I had no doubt why I regained 100 lbs.  In fact, I think the surgery worked pretty good it that was all I gained.  In the end, after 8 years I was still 20 lbs less then when I started.  Not much but I guarantee you that had I not had the surgery I would have been at least 50 lbs heavier at that point and probably more.

I just knew that since I was getting a second chance I wanted to use my past experience to help me do things differently this time.  Basically I looked at everything I did after the first WLS and did the exact opposite.

One of the most beneficial things I did was stick with the winners.  Find the people who had what I wanted and learn how they did it.  I didn't need to know how to fail, I had mastered that, but I did need to know what I was supposed to do and I needed to see that others could do it, maybe I could, too.

Say what you want about the vets but I ask you this.  If you were moving to a new neighborhood, one you had never been to before, who would you want showing you around.  Someone who just moved there a week before or someone who had lived there a long time and could tell you the good places to visit and the ones to avoid.  I choose to follow those who have been there a while, not just the ones who have done great, but those who haven't done great but turned things around, learned from their mistakes, picked themselves up and then turned around and tried to help someone else get off the ground.
