Anyone gone from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve? Insurane pay for revision?
I had lap band surgery January 2008 and lost over 100 pounds in the first year and a half. I got an over-fill that had me sick all the time. The doctor removed part of my fill and I started putting weight back on. We never found that “sweet” spot again. I’ve gained almost all of my weight back. Now I’m weighing the option of going from the lap band to gastric sleeve.
I’d love anyone’s opinions and experiences with this. Also, did you get your insurance to pay for the revision? Just this year I have been diagnosed with diabetes II, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Heart disease runs so high in my family. I’m only 47 and feel like I am truly limiting my time I have to spend with my husband and kids.
Thanks!
Hundreds have revised because the band is a faulty product that failed for thousands of people. The sleeve is what a great many have revised to and most say it does what the band was supposed to do but didn't. If the band worked for you then the sleeve should too. I suggest you hang out on the sleeve forum for awhile to see how it works for people.
As for insurance coverage you will need to contact your own insurance company because some do and others don't. Good luck to you, I remember you from when you first got banded.
I'm switching from band to sleeve shortly. Don't know if it will do everything I want it to do but I'm ready to give it my best.
Australia has a different health system. If my doctor says I need surgery, my private health insurance and my public health cover kicks in. Most of it will be paid by Medicare (public health system) and most of the rest by my private insurance. (Sometimes, people from the US describe our system as socialist or even communist but to be honest - we have a system that means everyone can get what they need usually when they need it without worrying about payment and I think that's a good investment in the health of the nation!)
