Has anyone had a revision surgery done in Mexico and payed cash, no insurance? If so where in Mexico and who was your surgeon? Where do you go for your follow up care?

I had my Lapband in Mexico - Monterrey with Dr. Sanchez in 2005.  He was murdered a few years ago -  but I went through Ready 4 a Change.  The band sucked...but my experience did not. I was going to go have a sleeve revision there if my insurance had not paid for my RNY revision.

Research thoroughly.

I have been sleeved since 2006 and what a revision. If my insurance doesn't cover it then I was thinking about getting it done in Mexico but now i'm scared because Mexico isn't a safe place.

If you already have a Sleeve, I assume you're wanting to add the Switch to make a complete DS. In that case, the ONLY surgeon to see in Mexico is Dr. Ungson. I'm not sure just where he's located, but everyone says it's a VERY safe place, very good care, etc.

Only parts of Mexico are not safe. If you are looking for trouble you can find it in any "Safe" city in the world. Now surgery in Mexico is a whole different ball of wax. I traveled for revision surgery. My surgeon is in contact with my PCP.

I had my revision in TJ with Dr. Juan Antonio Lopez Corvala. He did my 2 lap bands also. I have been dealing with post gallbladder removal complications so Kaiser, where I am insured is taking care of me. They have a bariatric doctor seeing me now. He isn't the nicest, especially since I had my surgery done in MX, but the rest of the staff is awesome.

Go check out the Mexico boards!  There is lots of good info there.  I was researching to have my sleeve there if I couldn't win the fight with my insurance.  I have seen many report back how their stay was cleaner and safer than in the US.  I was confident with going.

If you already have sleeve, I assume you want to upgrade to the DS? Anythng else and it would be a shame to ruin that sleeve. Ungson, and only Ungson if you want to go to MX.
