Revision surgery scheduled!
Hi all,
Many of you know me from the Lap Band forum. Well, today I'm officially posting as a revision patient.
Long story short, I had LB surgery in 2008, lost 116 lbs in 9 months and maintained that WL for 2 years or so. Years 3 and 4 I started testing the limits of my pouch and started adding in foods that were banned from the diet I followed to lose the weight. This started a long history of fills, un-fills, total un-fills, etc. I developed chronic reflux and damaged the junction between my pouch and esophagus to the extent that food and bile wouldn't stay in my pouch. The band had to be removed this past May.
Last Monday my surgeon's office submitted paperwork for RNY surgery to my insurance company. They approve in 4 days! Yesterday I got a surgery date (Oct. 14).
I loved my band while the good times lasted but I know now that I should have had RNY to begin with. (I chickened out the first time). I developed a serious cross addiction to sugar when I could no longer get comfort from large quantities of food. Not all RNY patient get dumping syndrome from sugar but I won't mind at all if I do. I welcome the physical deterrent no matter how severe.
I'm also going back in to therapy. I know I can lose weight with a WL tool. I also know that I have to change my thinking about food and how to deal with the stressors in life without going to food for comfort. I did therapy before and it helped but there's more work to be done.
Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted.
Lisa O.
I want to wish you the very best on your revision. I know you want to get that extra weight off and I'm sure between the RNY and some more therapy you will do great. It is always a battle of sorts but you can make it an easier battle with these tools. I'll be praying for a successful surgery and speedy recovery! God bless!!
Lisa, Congrats! I know how much this means to you. You will do great with your RNY. For me, it has been an easy transition. I am doing very well and am pleased with the benefits I am seeing with RNY. It is more effective for me than my Lapband. I find myself eating less and have experienced almost no dumping. Keep us informed as you progress. Oh... I slipped into the 170s this week. Down 46 pounds in 2 months... more importantly feeling great and being active. -- Tom
