I had a band from 2007-2009.  It slipped twice so I had it removed.  I had RNY about a month ago and its been a much better experience by far.  Less pain, less getting stuck, no heartburn.

I am revising from band to RNY in 1 week. I am very optimistic that I will get some relief from reflux and restriction that I don't get with the band. Will keep you posted.

I'm over 3 months post op from revision and I have no restriction at all with RNY.  I just measure my food and stop eating when it's gone.  I don't get any sensation of being full or of being hungry.  With my band it smacked me in the face if I had one bite too much but so far with RNY, I don't get anything like that.  I did have my band for 7 years so maybe it's going to take longer for my nerve endings to heal.  I plan on discussing with my surgeon as those that had a virgin RNY seem to have restriction from day 1 and if it wasn't for me losing weight and not having ravenous hunger, I'd think they did nothing more than remove my band.
