Revision thought?

I have my original surgery in 2003 and was very compliant and did very well until about 4 years ago. I saw my surgeon at that point and she wanted me to try in use the surgery I had. I have tried to do that but it is such a struggle. I weigh 232 down from the original 308. I am struggling with feeling like a failure. I feel like I am ready to se
Seek a revision. I have just left a message with my surgeon's nurse. My surgeon is not a mean lady at all and has done several surgeries on me. However I feel like I need its second chance. When I asked her to convert me to a DS I was having issues with my stomach so that was part of a reason for saying no. I have tried to do Weigh****chers and I'm hungry all the time! Can some of you tell me your reasons for choosing the revision that you did?

You need to consult with a surgeon who is a revision specialist. There are very few surgeons who can do a true RNY-to-DS revision, and you need one of them. Here's a link to a thread that lists them: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/4599894/RNY-to-DS -revision-surgeons/

Revision on 10/03/13

I'm approved for revision from SRVG, from 1998, to RNY. No date yet, pre testing just now scheduling. I chose a revision because I am now a diabetic and have high BP. I lost 160 but have regained 100 in 10 years and really want to live well as I age. I am 51 and know, as a diabetic, there will only be complication in my health if I dont. I have tried all the diets so many times, even ran a 1/2 marathon 10 yrs ago. This truely is a long thought out decision.

Have you considered the DS instead? The DS has the very BEST stats for resolving or preventing diabetes and high cholesterol.

My insurance would only pay for revision if I met the original stats - 40 BMI or over, etc.

I had the band in 2005 and never lost more than 27 pounds.  So... yeah, I revised -- finally!!

I would have done DS, but my BMI was only 41 and my ins only pays for DS at 50 BMI or over.

Best of luck to you.

can an RNY be revised to an RNY? I started out at 350 and had the RNY. I had it in 2001 and lost 150 pounds which i kept off quite successfully for 7 years--then i had thyroid cancer and had to get it removed--then had more medical issues (ideopathic neuropathy, fibro), more tests, new meds, and i started to become more depressed over the lack of mobility and now here i am at 316 pounds.  Last year I started working out, riding my bike every day no matter what and going to water aerobics- after 5 months i did not lose any weight and I messed up my knee from the bike and before i knew it- i was gaining.  I want a revision-- had it done in carmel, Indiana--but the doc/surgeon won't even see me unless i go to 6 support groups in a row. The support groups are for pre-surgery people, not the ones looking for a revision and i can't relate. I would like to meet other people who are looking at a revision too.

Revision on 12/10/12

Hi,

I revised from RNY to DS. When I started looking into revision I was very interested in RNY to RNY or even Band over Bypass.  RNY to DS was a very scary prospect.  But after research I realized re-vamping something that failed once was probably not a good idea. If it didn't work the first time around why would it a second? I am very happy with my decision.

I go to support meetings and find them quite helpful. I am not the only person with a revision. But I have to say I was very embarrassed the first couple of time. Heres the thing though-you do not have to share your situation it's your personal business. You can say pre-op if they ask because you would be pre-op for the revision surgery.

Please consider all of your options. You do not have to settle for something you are unsure of.

Good luck to you

Whitney
