RNY to Distal bypass/ERNY
I have to speak up an say I have seen an alarming number of people leaning towards getting a revision of their RNY to an ERNY (extended RNY) also known as Distal bypass.
I want to put this information out here for people to research, after all, you have to live with this decision every day for the rest of your life, right??
Please read this link to another post. Here are ERNY people talking of their experiences living with their ERNY:

I'm sure i'm going to get blasted with hate mail, oh well, here I go anyways, lol.Why does everyone always think people that revised to distal did so without researching? I pondered my decision for a good 8 months. I've been to numerous websites, researched and asked many questions. I also pulled up journal articles and weighed my pros and cons. Geesh, I had so much research, I should had done my graduate thesis on this subject, lol. I grilled my surgeon on the subject. He even referred me to some excellent resources as I'm not familiar with the science family of journals. I stayed away from journal articles more than five years of age just because of the technology innovations and advancements. However due to the turnaround of research to print most info I found was still a few years old. My whole thing is regardless of the surgery or technique, each person must make a well informed, non-bias decision without pressure regardless of what they decide.
No blasting from me
In my opinion, Jamie and alot of other vets here, just want to make sure that everyone knows ALL their options. It is great that you did lots of research...unfortunately that is not the norm. I would say that most people trust so blindly in their surgeons that they take their word as scripture and don't question it. There are other options for revision from a RNY. You can revise to the ERNY, Sleeve or DS. Most people don't realize that you can revise to a Sleeve or a DS, which are both highly superior to the ERNY, IMNSHO.
I did not do my research, all those years ago when I had a RNY. I didn't even know about the DS when I had my original WLS. My surgeon didn't do it, so didn't talk about it. I now believe that is a huge disservice to anyone seeking WLS. How can one choose what is best for them if they do not know ALL their options. So often we see people on the main board waffeling between the band and RNY...oblivious to the fact that those are not their only options. They are often times shocked to find out that there are other options available to them.
Think twice, cut once.....that is a huge quote from us many revisioners. If I had done my due diligence in 2007, I would have known ALL my options and would have gotten a DS to begin with. That would have been best for me. I was very fortunate to have a highly experienced RNY to DS revision surgeon in my back yard. I was able to get myself fixed up, although any revision has a higher chance of complications...I was lucky and didn't have any.
We are just passionate about getting people to do their research so they don't end up back here in two years.

I just want everyone to have the facts. That is all. As clpeltz stated, there are people who do not do their research. I did not know that the DS even exsisted when I was researching the band and the RNY in 2000 and 2001, I might have made a different choice, who knows.
