VSG to DS or RNY Revisional Surgery?

While you're researching options, look at the DS as well as the Sleeve. The DS has the same stomach as the Sleeve, plus an intestinal bypass similar to, but more effective than, that of the RNY/gastric bypass. The DS has the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats, especially for those of us with more to lose.

The Sleeve, as a stand-alone WLS, started gaining popularity about five years ago. Now, we're getting a lot of posters over on the DS board who want to add the intestinal portion due to either regain or insufficient loss. The trouble is, a lot of insurance companies have a 'one per lifetime' limit on WLS. (Also, the DS is more effective when done all at once.)

I realize that I needed more than just restriction.  I also had emotional problems at the time and it drove me to food.  I lost 30 lbs and gained 15 lbs, never got to my goal.

I have decided not to go with the DS.  I'm looking at the Gastric Bypass.  The DS is not for those who take medication, like Anti Depressants & Adderall the medication will not stay in your system with the DS.  I also have a huge haital hernia and suffer with acid reflux.  With the Gastric Bypass I will no long have acid reflux.  With the Sleeve my acid reflux is horrible.

I think you may need to do more research as you are basing this on a virgin RNY-GB.  As you already have a sleeve you don't have the blind stomach any more.  That is the configuration that eliminates the reflux.  With your sleeve to RNY they just make the sleeve shorter to be a pouch.  Than they do the by-pass.  I have seen this Combination and it is the worse of both.  You lose your pyloric valve and get the man made stoma which stretches in a lot of cases.  There isn't the blind stomach doing what it still does in the RNY either.   I would really have to look at that high-bred surgery long and hard before I would chose it over the DS.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I take antidepressents without issue and have since before my RNY in 2008.  I had my revision to DS in 2011.  I take prozac and wellbutrin.

Why did you get a revision?  Also, what do you like better with the DS over the RNY? Do you have heartburn or acid reflux?

Thanks for sharing

Just curious, did you post anything about a hiatal hernia and your absorption of medications over on the DS message board??  Wider audience there, and WAY better replies (more traffic there).

I think you would get MUCH BETTER, more positive feedback, and experience about both the hernia's and the absorption of medications there.  First-hand experience.  And acid reflux feedback too.
