VSG to DS or RNY Revisional Surgery?
Hi Everyone,
I'm researching to see how others have done with the choice they made DS or RNY.
I have not made up my mind yet if I'm going to get a revision, but just incase, I thought I would ask around. I suffer from acid reflux. I take medication for Effexor XR depression & Adderall for ADD.
Thanks
I hope this helps...It is for my policy in IL

Hi Tricie,
I found my policy and it does cover the DS. However, I have decided if I revise I will get a Gastric Bypass. The DS will not work for me because I take Anti Depressants and Adderall and the medication will just flush out of me. I also suffer with acid reflux and have a haital hernia. I understand the GB is the surgery best as far as not having acid reflux, which will be great for me.
My doctor appointment is next Wednesday. I know the office called BCBS Federal they did approve me for surgery already, although I don't know how they did that because I have not met the doctor yet.
Are you looking to revise to a different surgery? Thanks for sharing with me.

Exactly what I was going to point out.

While it's a Federal plan, BCBS seems to differ from state to state, especially when it comes to revisions. Can't say a single word about your state but, in California, they are huge pains in the ass unless you go through the legal circuit. There's enough case law that they end up losing in California frequently.
However, if you are sticking with your original surgeon, check out their notes in your file. Fairly decent chance that they addressed the issue of DS and doing it in two stages. Good DS surgeons frequently think ahead like that.
