Battlefield of the Mind..

Hello!

I'm new to ObesityHelp; although, I was banded in 2008.

I have a chance to have revision surgery; however, I am worried I will end up back where I started once the "newness" wears off.

I'm seeking advice from those who were banded and resulted to revision surgery.... How did you tackle the mind and change the way you thought about food? After all, that is the only way to be successful! The mind is so powerful and since it has defeated me so far, I'm concerned that getting back on the operating table may be a waste of time if I do not change my mindset.

Please, please share with me what helped you.

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Bigphine73

Hey Hun

two suggestions for you.

check out the failed band group, there are over 600 members.http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/failed_lap_bands/

the BEST thing I did for myself was get a psychologist who specialised in eating disorders- I was seeing her weekly up until Christmas and will go back soon, this has helped me with.

My feelings of failure.

my major food phobias.

my feelings that I wasn't going to succeed this ttime and most importantly.

why I gained the weight I gained in the first place.

your defiantly not alone in how your feeling, the band is a useless device that doesn't do what it promised- it has the highest failure rate, complication rate and rate of revisions.

if you want to know my story apart from what's in my tag its on my profile, good luck Hun- your not alone!

Hello Scarlettbegonias!

Thank you for your advice.  After my doctors appointment on yesterday, I am beginning to realize more and more of how bad I need the psychological support.  After the physician’s assistant proceeded to unfill me for the 3rd time in 3 months (Uuggghh) she assured me that we would work through my struggles together, which was somewhat comforting.  She provided me some information on a food additions program and a telephone number for a new therapist in hopes of finding out my true issue.

I am a member of the failed band group and will continue to look there for good information… I also plan to view your story as I see you too have had an extensive WL journey.

Just hearing those 4 words "You Are Not Alone" constantly lifts a vast majority of the burdens I've felt over the past few months / years....

Don’t be surprised if I send you a friend request!

Thanks again!

Meant to say "food addictions" program.  Don't need anymore food "additions".... that's how I got here in the first place.

All good Hun, sometimes realising you need that support is the hardest part- was for me anyway, that's fantastic that you have a food addictions. Group near you, from what I've seen actual support groups are a huge help!
