Revision on 12/19- On 2 week liquid diet- need adivce
Hi.
I had RNY in 2008, and didn't lose as much as I'd like. I am having a revision to have a band put over my bypass. I started the 2 weeks of clear liquids today, but I need some advice. I can't drink protein drinks---period. I have tried all of them to no avail. They all make me sick. I am so hungry I can't even stand it. Is this typical 1st day liquid or is it moreso because of my lack of protein drinks?
Hi I had my revision surgery on 11/30 and is a little less than 2wks post op. I originally had RNY gastric bypass and I thought I was having the Apollo overstitch and it turned out being a revision of my original surgery... I'm glad my surgeon did this, there isn;t a lot of positive feedback on the overstitch.... Anyway, my 1st surgery was in '04 and I lost 230lbs from 386lbs. I've regain 100lbs and time of my revision, I was 257lbs. The day I came home from the hospital. I made homemade trukey meatball soup (I got married 3 yrs ago and my husband still has to eat :) I made this soup because the broth from it is sooo good!! It was seasoned very well and my husband enjoyed it as usual. It was filling and it didn't make me feel like I was missing anything. I was careful not to eat any of the meat but if any of the green beans or carrots got in the bowl, it wasn't bad because it's soft ( I had one piece of carrot and one sting off green bean) After eating this, I was full and satisfied. I drank my first protein shake today and it was great (Atkins double choc, half frozen)
I would suggest you go on allrecipes.com and do a search for soups and broths. Campbell's broth alone will drive you crazy!!! Let me know if you'd like the recipe :)
Hi I am a BOBster as well. I had to do 2 weeks of liquids too. It wasn't so bad after day 3. I drank atkins shakes, slim fast and mixed carnation instant breakfast with real milk. I also ate a TON of proegresso soup (WW version) with veggies and also tomato soup with fiber. Yes, I cheated a bit, but, it helped. I was allowed protein shakes, all veggies, soup, broth and liquids but no alchol. I also would go to chipolte and eat the lettuce, chopped tomatoes, corn and salsa. I am not sure how 'strict' your doctor is but I was allowed more than shakes. I did shakes days 1-5, days 6-10 I ate the other stuff and 11-14 shaked again. its to shrink your organs and defat your liver. It made my recovery easy. I walked home from the hopsital and went out that night and to work the next day.
Email if you need anything. There are many Bobs on here, but, not always out and about bc of the bandbashers. Most people on my profile as 'friends" are BOBs. I am at goal, 170. I am happy and I love my band. But, be forewarned, its 10000000X different that the RNY. Its hard. Its rough and its like shoping at TJ Maxx, sometimes you find what you want, other times failure.
Good Luck.
If you can't tolerate protein shakes that's a tough road. You've tried the clear ones - like Isopure or Nectar? I am on day 7 of my pre-op diet. The first 2 days were the worst. But having my veggies has helped a lot. I've never eaten so many mini-cukes, carrots, celery in a really really long time! Maybe that's one of my problems - I should have filled up on these all along. Lesson learned. Onward we march.
