QUESTION?

Hi All,

Ive never been to this board before but i have a question , Can you get a revision of the same surgery? Im almost 2 years out VSG, i reached my first goal of 165 but only saw that number 1 time but even then i wasnt happy. I want to reach my second goal of 145 which is my surgeons goal for me initially. Over the past few months i have been struggling hard to lose a pound and all ive been donig is gaining instead. I went back to basics with eating and im hoping i will see some changes soon on the scale. Also ive had complications from Tummy tuck and a hernia repair that was done back in Feb this year. Im just now able to get back on an excercise program. Im not complaining I LOVE MY SLEEVE and i think it works great , i know its only a tool but the further you are out its more harder to lose.

I was thinking of mentioning or asking questions to my surgeon about revision or if its ever been done on a person. Geesh i dont want to sound stupid but i know different docs uses different bougie sizes for your stomach and was just wondering???

Any thoughts?

Re-Sleeving is possible, but it's more risky than a 'virgin' surgery. And whether or not it would be effective---did you get an unusually large Sleeve to begin with? It would also depend on how your Sleeve is shaped. The risk of leaks goes up dramatically if re-Sleeving would require crossing the original staple line.

Do you journal your food? I'd try that first, and see what getting back on your exercise program does. Re-Sleeving is just too big a risk to take for 20 pounds.

Oh hun, re-sleeving is possible but it is possibly very, very dangerous.  Why risk it?  Can you make changes in what you are eating and adjustments to your exercise routine instead?

Good Luck

Remember no WLS exists where you will have to do nothing to maintain your health & weight loss.  This is work for the rest of our lives - that is if you want to look and actually be fit.  This will never be about sitting on our butts.

And you would be better off getting the intestinal portion done instead of re-sleeving your stomach because it sounds like your stomach is not the problem.  Duodenal Switch is the way to go if you want to malabsorp some of your calories away so you can eat more without gain - and still not eat whatever you feel like eating whenever you feel like it.  STILL forget the simple carbs with any surgery.  You've got to work anyway you put it or you will not keep your weight off.

With most surgeries you don't loss 100% of your EWL.  If you lost all but, the last 20 pounds, most surgeons will consider you a success.  I wouldn't think they would take the risk to re-sleeve you for 20 pounds either.

Try journaling.  I know even with the band problems and even un-fill than un-banded I was able to lose 50 pounds by journaling and exercise.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the input, ive never heard of it being done but i do know its risky business. I wouldnt dare put myself through another surgery. I do consider myself a sucess and know i can always lose with journaling, diet and excercise. Its a lifelong thing and i know i can do it. I was just asking, thanks everyone!
