Apollo Overstitch Revision
Hi Marie,
I hope this works for you. I have not heard any long term statistics. I revised from RNY to DS and did extensive research on all of my options before I made the decision. I am almost 1 year post-op and while recovery was slow I am 15 pounds under goal (healthy BMI) and doing pretty well. Insurance covered it. Best of luck to you,
Whit

Hi Anita,
I didn't have positive results from the Apollo. I personally wouldn't recommend it however; I have heard of some that have had success (that have posted in this forum). My surgeon was Dr. Voellinger and I would not recommend him or his office (bad experience).
I would recommend Dr. Roc Bauman if you're considering a revision. He is with Carolina Weight Loss. He is FABULOUS. His office is efficient and people travel from all over to see him.
Best of luck to you!!!
Marie
Anita,
I am wondering how your Apollo Overstitch went with Dr. Portenier? He was my surgeon for my roux-en-y in 2008. A couple years ago I developed severe reactive hypoglycemia, and now I have severe anemia - both due to malabsorption issues. In the fall Dr. Portenier suggested the Apollo Overstitch to help with the malabsorption by keeping food in my pouch longer. My insurance denied the procedure and I was asked to appeal it by Dr. P, but I decided not to. Now that I am on iron infusions, I am wondering if I should go back to see if this is still an option for me. So I am hoping yours went extremely well and I am curious to hear. I have gained weight back - I am about 70 lbs from goal, but that does not concern me as much as not having the hypoglycemia and anemia problems.

Hi Brendie. I have opted to not have it. I went to his clinic on 13 May and saw the nutritionist and psy. They both told me that I would only lose about 10% of my weight - ! To go through all that for just 10%? So I am currently doing the 5 day pouch test to see if that will help and my main error in all of this since a few years ago was to drink while I was eating and eating a lot of carbs. So I am doing my best to stop those. I still have kept 90 lbs off from original surgery but have more and more to go. So I am uping my walking, avoiding carbs and the drinking while eating. Keep me posted on you!
