Any sleeve (VSG) regrets?

So I just got my approval to revise from lap-band to sleeve. Of course I know their are plenty of people *****gret having the lap-band placed, but I so far haven't heard of any major drawbacks to the sleeve. Of course their will be plenty of honeymooners singing its praise, but since I've been away from these boards for a while I am interested in hearing if you had any regrets, complications, etc.

Sarah I'd suggest you go hang out on the VSG forum and just spend some time reading there and nearly everyday someone asks this same question. I've been going there for over a year now because hopefully once I get medicare age I can revise to the sleeve. I don't recall but one or two complaints and those are usually the first month when things are more difficult while healing, they usually change their song once they get out a few months.  They usually say the sleeve acts like we were told the band would be but didn't. You have a fairly steady restriction and are able to eat more healthy foods, no getting stuck. We also have the advantage of already knowing how to eat with small bites and good chewing.  Good luck to you I think you would do well with the sleeve!

Thank you Sarah for asking the question I am in the same boat as you. I  had the lap band about 6 years ago and it worked at first and then the acid reflux became overwhelming it work so well I did not want to go back to see the dr because I knew I had too much fluid. I lived off of cheetoe puffs and nachos for a year almost because it was the only thing that would go down. I started gaining weight once I let  the dr take some fluid out because I could no longer take it. However I just got my approval today for my revision for my sleeve and I am super excited and super scared. My BFF got the sleeve the first time and looks wonderful she had some problems in the beginning with her throat closing shut however she looks great now. I am just scared just hope I am making the right decision. Good luck with your surgery hope all goes well.

Hi Sarah,

So happy for you. I remember messaging you a year ago.

Had my revision almost 2 years ago. The only thing I would say is it took me a while to wrap my brain around the portion sizes. With my band I could eat a cow or sometimes nothing at all. I think my eating habits were disfunctional at beast when I had my band.

The sleeve for me has been real consistent especially after the initial healing.

As always if I eat crap I can gain weight but so far so good and this is how I was told the band would work.

Lots of luck to you.

I had a Lap-Band for seven years, and have had my VSG for four years.  VSG is 1000x better than a Lap-Band.

I lost more, and had zero complications.  Type 2 diabetes remission too.  As others have said, it works like the Lap-Band was supposed to...only no PBs.

Only issues I've had is in the past few months, I've gained 30 pounds.  Still better off than with my Lap-Band, but am having trouble losing it.  Has to do with a bit of stretching, less ghrelin effect, and stopping breastfeeding (which gave me extra weight loss after a two year plateau).  I debated revising to a DS, and even with the weight gain, I think I made the right choice.  Also, my pregnancy with my VSG was easier than with my Lap-Band.

I did have low vitamin D and B12...so please be sure to do your blood work!

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(
