Surgery Date..not yet approved ... ??

I have to say I think it is a little backwards that I am scheduled for Band to RNY on 9/14, but we have not submitted to insurance yet.

I would think with all the snags with insurance and revision they would go ahead and submit.

They keep saying that BCBS is a snap, but I sure would feel better!!

I hear ya! How do they know if the insurance won't drag there feet.
I'd feel better to have approval before the date.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Well you can always call the insurance and see if it is covered, if it is the docs probably already know it will be ok'd. Altho yeah I'm like you, I like to know things are already approved and ready to go. The docs may just be making sure you get the earliest surgery date, sometimes they are booked quite a bit in advance so this way you have the earliest date and they can always reschedule if needed. Anyway wishing you a smooth and uneventful surgery and speedy recovery!

I would not have gotten this far if it wasn't a covered service. I called before I ever saw a surgeon and they verified that it is a benefit. It trouble is, the panel that makes the "is it medically necessary" decision has not given the stamp of approval. My UGI was normal. So I do not have a current medical condition to warrant band removal - they have to take into consideration I have not had fill in it for 3 years. There is still a human that needs to decide that they will pay for it.

I would definitely be concerned as your date is quickly approaching. I also have BCBS (Anthem) and they told me they have 15 business days to make a decision as to approve or deny the procedure.
