Hi everyone, I'm Rick from WV. I had the Lap Band in 2009 (at 550lbs) I lost 185 lbs. I'm currently at 365 and was finding it harder and harder to lose with the band. I talked to my surgeon about revising to RNY and he thought that would be the best option. I am very nervous but excited.

Are their any other bandsters who had the revision? if so, I'd love to hear how the transition went. Would also like to hear the good and the bad from RYN/VSG folks who's had the surgery.

Hi Rick,

I just revised 7 weeks ago from Band to RNY.  I have a blog about my experience on my profile that you are welcome to read.

I love my RNY. . . .sooooooooooo glad I had the revision.  Am down 39 lbs in 7 weeks, and I'm considered a "lightweight"   You also may want to post over on the RNY board.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the information guys! it seems like you both are doing very well. Congrats on your success.

I start the liquid diet on the 24th and that is going to be the hardest part I'm sure.

Thanks!

Yeah, the liquid diet is not so much fun. . .BUT. . .the end result is sooooooooo worth it!!!!

I promise you that after the 3rd day on liquids, it really does get better!  You are pretty much "detoxed" from carbs at that point, so it seems that your hunger pangs significantly lessen.  That is what happened with me and I have read on here that 3-4 days seems to be the magic number for making the liquid diet feel easier.  Just look at each shake as one meal closer to your revision!!!!
You can definitely do it!!!!!

I had the band placed in 4/2008, lost about 60 lbs (292-245), stalled about 2 years out, and now my band has slipped.  I am looking into getting a revision after the first of the year.  At first I was looking into the VSG, but my surgeon strongly recommended the RYN.  I have been off of these boards for the past couple years and recently came back on, really surprised at how many people with the bands are getting revisions.  I am happy to see the success rate with them too!  Good luck to you!!

I am at the same place as you.  I have had the band since 2/09.   I have had medical issues for 2.5 years.  I am fighting to get approval for the sleeve.  Unfortunatly my issurance has just started a 1 per life time WLS policy.  So am fighting.

Good Luck Rick!

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I was revised from band to rny in February and very glad that I did it.  My journey has been easy but I can't speak for everyone as you know we all have different experiences.  Keep us posted how you do.  I'll keep you in prayer for a successful revision.

Hey, Rick, I was banded in 12/2009 and was fairly successful, but then started having reflux and other band related issues.  I am revising to an RNY on 8/10. I'm anxious and hopeful. It will be good to follow your journey.

No words of wisdom here, but I am going to be your surgery twin. I had lapband surgery in 2005, and I'm having a revision to RNY on 7/30/2012. I did lose weight with the band, but I never got to goal. And I've struggled with reflux for a few years.

I had to start my pre-op liquid diet this past Monday. It does get easier each day, but I will admit a bit of envy that you don't have to start until next week!

Best of luck!
