What are the risks and complications of Revision Surgery. The NP told me they are 10 times as likely but we did not go in to what they were. (not that kind of visit). Can someone tell me What they are and how to fix them and when do they occur? Like I know one of the risks is a leak, but where is the leak, how is it fixed, does it happen during the surgery or after, how long after. What are the other risks?

Not sure what you're revising from?
I'm Band to RNY and I can tell you what my doc told me...
The area where the band has been sitting may be in worse condition than the rest of your stomach (he likened it to a ring that you've worn on a finger constantly for a long period of time). This makes it more likely that you could have a leak. Depending on the leak, they might correct it surgically or might wait a couple days with you in the hospital (without eating/drinking to compromise the pouch) to see if it corrects inself. My doc is keeping me in the hospital one night longer than first timers to monitor for any complications, which makes me THINK that leaks are much more likely immediately than after the fact, but I don't KNOW the answer to how long after.

I have an RNY and am wanting a redo. Let me ask you, how do they know you have a leak?

There may be multiple ways to check, but with me, they had me drink stuff, and they watched it go through under flouroscopy.
I'm wondering about that risk level. Do they mean just for that surgeon? I haven't seen that number pertaining to DS to RNY overall, so I'm guessing that is just for them. Revision from RNY to DS does have more risk, but it seems to vary a LOT between the surgeons, which is why the DSers are so adamant about who to go to for the revisions, so you have less than average risk.

Some times dingle berries are the lowest hanging fruit.
