I'm really interested in talking to anybody that ever experienced having erosion of realize band. My surgery date for banding was July 2008. My
realize band removal date was September 2010. Everything was awesome till 4 days prior to
removal. I began hurting so bad to the point of having to roll out of bed onto floor to get up.
Went to local emergency room September 21st/ 2010 and was then rushed to Vanderbilt
Medical Center. They basically at that time began many pain meds. many antibiotic bags, and many test which was shortly followed by emergency removal of my band September 24th/
2010. No lies to tell, this was the worst day of my life. I had lost a total of 178 lbs.!!! I was hospitalized three times for a total of 30 days spent. I had an enlarged liver, enlarged
spleen (3 times larger than suppose to be), and have suffered from major blood issues,
infections, and fever as high as 105.6 degrees. I was told by surgeon that removed my band, he wouldn't perform any kind of weight loss surgery because of my stomach being in such a shape from erosion. Test showed before removal that my band was visible from inside my stomach almost the full circumference of band. Today's date is March 28th 2012, I'm needing advise on possible weight loss surgery again in very near future. Although previous surgeon said he wouldn't perform weight loss surgery on me, I can't help but wonder if his reasons were genuine, and that quite frankly is putting it mildly. Point being my original surgeon that put band in was no longer practicing in same hospital/state when my band had to be removed I then was passed on to his colleague to whom removed my band and left infection in my body. Visit after visit to his office I complained of such pain with repeated visits to ER but he knew more than me and did nothing not even a ct scan. Had it not been for infectious disease specialist in Bowling Green Ky certain I wouldn't be here today. To date my spleen is still in tacked and almost back to regular size although I do still experience some discomfort. Was told my liver was back to normal as well but am having such a hard time losing and keeping weight off. Until 1 wk ago I was scared to see what # on scales said. I knew I'd gained weight but thought close to 50 lbs. Imagine my surprise when I finally weighed in just last wk and had gained close to 100 lbs back. I'm a big framed woman so I carry my weight well...no one would ever guess I weigh what I do from looking but I do unfortunately!!! I'm currently on Weigh****chers and although I stay within my points (never even use my plus points) I got on scale for wkly weigh in and had lost ZERO!!! I'm so scared and need names of surgeons from around my area that are high risk surgeons with the absolute best credentials!!! I'm interested in hearing from anyone also that maybe has experienced a situation similar to mine with a better outcome possible. I'm so keeping my fingers crossed for someone on here to say there's hope for me after all!!!

Well I can't help with surgeons but I do know that there have been alot of folks who have had band erosions. Some have been able to revise but a few have been too damaged to do so. Also many revision surgeons want you to wait a few months before revision to let the swelling and damaged area recover some before subjecting it to more trauma. I wish you the best and hope some smarter folks will post some surgeons for you!

Your standard issue surgeon may not be able to do it but a revision surgeon certainly can.

It appears you do well with restriction alone, have you considered a sleeve?
