Insurance won't cover

So...I just found out my insurance won't cover my revision, regardless of RNY to DS or RNY to Lap Band bc my company doesn't have the gastric rider....
I'm wondering how much it would be to get the lap band and pay myself...
I was so depressed before this...now...I don't even want to get out of bed

I'm so sorry to hear this, I know you are devastated.  Please also come to the new board, http://weightlosssurgery.proboards.com, there are very savvy veteran people there who know a lot about insurance and many other surgery issues. You can post on the main board, or the board of the surgery that would be your first choice to revise to, as well as the revision board. You might get more traffic at first posting the board of the surgery you'd like to revise to. Try not to give up just yet, there are many people who have had to go through all kinds of hoops, who can share information that can help you, and, you will get support so you know you're not alone.

I don't know anything about the cost in dollars for either of these revisions---but you should also consider the cost in long-term health and satisfication.

In other words, yes, getting a Band placed around your RNY stoma would be cheaper dollar-wise right now, but in the long run spending more now to get converted to the DS by a reliable, experienced revision surgeon will give you more hope for long-term success.

I'd really hate to see you pay out of pocket for something that's not going to work long-term.

I wouldn't have a DS without insurance.  Complications will bankrupt you.

I wouldn't have ANY WLS without insurance---complications will bankrupt you. Hell, having the Band WITH insurance can bankrupt you---and kill you.

Why? I know people who have great experience w the band? I'm curious bc I am trying to make a good choice, but I hear bad things about the band on here

If you spontainiously asked 100 people who had the band...... you would definately find out WHY so many are aganist it.  I cannot quote correct percentages, but I highly doubt 10% are COMPLETELY happy with their decision.  So, that leaves 90% miserable.

Not sure what your job situation is, but if you get a part time job at Starbucks, they (did-- not sure if they still do) have on their policy for revisons.

Well, here is a cash pay from RNY to DS revision with Dr. Keshishian in California that i received in March 2011.

$11,000.00 for dr. Keshishian' s surgeon's fee (That inclueds his $4,000.00 out of pocket fee if you have insurance)
$17,500.00 for the 4 day hospital fee (That is STEEP!!!!!!!)

Total $28,500.00  for the whole surgery

But here are some suggestions, hope that helps!!!!!!!!!!
