My RNY to DS revision story

IT IS GOOD TO BE HOME!!!!!!!

So, after nearly 3 years, I was FINALLY approved through insurance to have my RNY that I had i 2002 to DS revision with Dr. Keshishian in California. I flew out early from Alaska to California on December 28th, 2011. I had my pre-op appointment that afternoon at 2pm in his Glendale office. I had surgery the following morning, Thursday, December 29, 2011. My surgery lasted around 3 and ½ hours. I flew my girlfriend down there with me, and the entire 5 days I was in the Verdugo Hills Hospital, she was in my room with me. Slept like a pretzel in their recliner. The hospital has small rooms. But they are private, which is definitely nice. So, after surgery, I remember being woken up, and asked me to rate my pain…… Um, ya…….  I remember this…..  I started hollering it was a 25, and for them to “put me back out".   Remember that vividly. Holy **** that HURT. They finally did something, cause I woke again, and everything was foggy, but my pain was much, much less that it was, don’t get me wrong, I still hurt, but it was tolerable thanks to the drugs. On the 2nd day, my blood count was low, so I needed a blood transfusion. During my pre-op at the hospital, I was informed that it was a possibility that could happen. I got 2 bags of blood. My girlfriend was a true godsend that she stayed by my side the entire time.   I had a huge panic attack in recovery, and some additional panic attacks after that. Which I do not even remember at all. So, after 5 days in the hospital (Tuesday, January 3rd), I was discharged, and went to our hotel. Thursday, January 5th, I had my post-op with Dr. Keshishian, and he took out my staples. The next day Friday, January 6th, we flew home. That was a ROUGH day. It sucked. But I have made it home, finally!!!!!!   I have to compliment Diana Lopez from Dr. Keshishian’s. I owe SO MUCH to her. She was the one that I corresponded with at his office for nearly 3 years. I got to see her at my post-op appointment, and I hugged her, then I grabbed her, and cried, as I thanked her for so much.

There are more details in my journey to get approved in my profile.

My words are.......  You Owe It To Yourself To Make THE BEST Informed Decision For Yourself!!!!!!!  There are lots and LOTS of misconceptions, RESEARCH, RESREARCH, RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You owe that much to yourself!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your revision. What a journey! What you had done is not trivial, I am so glad/proud that you had an expert perform the surgery.  Sorry about your complications post-op but it sounds like you were taken care of well.  Good luck on your healing and weight loss, I hope both are rapid! :)

Thank you!!!!!  I agree what I ahd done is definately NOT trivial.  Dr.  Keshishian IS THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!

What complication are you talking about?  The blood transfusion?  That is NOT a complication of this surgery.  It is basically a "some do, some don't" senerio.  Just like sometimes you are told tha you *might* go to the ICU for the first night, you either do, or you don't.  No biggie.  I needed blood.  I got blood.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend. I thought blood transfusions were considered a "complication" of any surgery due to they aren't always necessary and usually it means you lost some blood. Glad you are doing well.

Sorry, I so did not mean to come off offended.  I apologize for my tone.

With the RNY to DS revision surgery, I think there might be a greater chance for a need for a possible blood transfusion because of the type of surgry it is.  The surgeon goes in, and takes the RNY, and puts it back to a normal anatomy.  AND THEN des the DS.  So, I was not concerened on bit about the possible need for blood.

And THANKS a BUNCH for the well wishes!!!!!!  I DO APPRECIATE THEM!!!!!!

Thanks Ladytazz!!!!!  Glad to be complaining of being sore & constipated instead of worrying about if the insurance company would deny me yet again!!!!!!
