Has anyone had a straight BPD revised to another type of surgery?

I can't imagine what a BPD could be revised to.  There's no remnant stomach, no pylorus, and some of the small intestine is gone as well.

What did you have in mind? What sort of problems are you having?

You might want to check out the 'new' WLS board at www.weightlosssurgery.proboards.com---that's where all the vets have gone.

Noo the stomach is intact. The surgery really is a longer limbed RNY. Lost all the weight i need to lose but have loose stool and diarreha every day.. I just would like to have solid BM again and my lab works are showing malnurishment

Nooo, it's not. Here are some pics of various forms of WLS:

As you can see, in the BPD there's no remnant stomach, and no pylorus---just a large pouch, with a long-limbed intestinal bypass. You're stuck with a pouch.

But you could have your bypass shorted, giving you a longer common channel and hopefully enough increased absorption to overcome your bowel issues. But before having another surgery, I'd try all the non-surgical things I could.

Start with your diet---do you journal your food? How many grams of carbs do you typically eat every day? How about sugar alcohols? They're notorious for causing diarrhea, and carbs are bad about it too.

And vitamins---how much calcium and iron do you take every day? Both calcium and iron are constipating---try increasing them to firm up your stool. Have you tried fiber?

What about pancreatic enzymes to help increase absorption? Exactly what do your labs say? Is it protein malnourishment, and if so, how many grams of protein do you eat a day?

Have you been tested for a bacterial overgrowth in you gut? Possibly C. diff.? Been on any antibiotics? Do you take any probiotics?

The long limb RNY is what the doc did. It was a revision from an RNY.  Why he called it a BPD without DS I don't know.Definitely, no question he left the stomach at the RNY status.I will check out the site you sent me. Thank you.

So you now have a distal or extended RNY? (ERNY) I too wonder why he called it a BPD, because they're definitely two different animals. (*grin*) Who was this surgeon, and are you seriously considering using him again?

If you do choose to go the surgical route, I'd seek out a revision specialist.
