Hi,

My band slipped and was replaced earlier this year. However, the new band developed a leak, which means I currently have no restriction. Before the slip, I had severe GERD and minimal weight loss. I am having my band removed tomorrow, and replaced by the DS. After much research, I've decided to go with something that offers both restriction and malabsorption, and (studies have shown) a better long-term success rate.

Regarding being a "lightweight:, my BMI is currently 36.5, but my comorbidity (osteoarthritis) qualified me for the DS.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, you are still a candidate for the surgery...although your insurance may or may not cover it.  However, You may have to pay out of pocket for the revision....

I was a revision from Band to RNY.  My insurance did cover my revision (all but about 2 grand)...make sure you do your research on revisions before deciding on one.  This thread is a good place to start.   I'd look at RNY, DS and Sleeve...everyone is different and keep in mind that when undergoing revision surgery that your risk for complications is higher.  My revision surgery ended up being open and I had a rough recovery...However, my gerd has disappeared and I'm down over 60 pounds (surgery in Aug).  Good luck with your decision!

My Lap Band slipped and it was horrible. I did lose the most weight at that time though bc I couldn't eat. My advice is to not let them fix it, but to have it entirely removed and switch to RNY. My Dr. says Band to Sleeve has a high leakage rate. She wouldn't even consider the sleeve with me. I'm switching to the RNY on 4-25. My biggest mistake was letting them fix the damn thing.

The Surgical Specialist group in New Orleans is AMAZING! If your BMI is not in the range, they have a new surgery called the POSE for people who want to lost about 40 lbs.  It was featured in Glamour magazine (the procedure and the surgical group).

Check out their website. Whyweight.com
I've been a patient for 8 years. My only regret was asking for the lap-band and not the RNY in the first place.
