RNY Revision, New to Board
I am in the process of having revisional surgery of my RNY from 2002. My original surgery had many complications including a 3 month hospital stay as well as the ICU and wound infections so I am VERY paranoid about the possible complcations of having this surgery.
Because of the way the previous surgeon left my body the complication chances quoted to me are 20-50%. My surgeon told me that normal complication rate is 5%.
I just wanted to get some ideas on what rates you were quoted, is this standard for the surgeon to give the worse case scenario.. BASICALLY, just looking for a little peace before I commit to this revision!
THANKS,
Stephanie

Hi there,
Do you know what you are revising to? I want to ask you to do some research on the revision choices available to you, as there are several.
I had a rny revised to a distal rny, or erny, bottom line I have the original pouch, but have a common channel of about 120.
I wish I had done more research before I made a decsion to revise, as my results are less than I had hoped for. I still have issues with the pouch, I more times than not, cannot eat dense proteins.
If I had it to do over I would research, figure out which revision would give me the best long term results, then find a very experienced surgeon that does the type of revision I needed. If you go to one that just lists revisions in their advertising, they will talk you into the type of revision they can perform. Please dont fall for that like I did. I knew enough that I wanted the ds, but was told I would have the same results, but sadly it did not work like that for me. I was so desperate to get something done that I took the first thing that sounded good. Now here I sit two years later, waiting until I can get yet another revision to the ds.
The choice is yours to make, but that choice may well dictate YOUR quality of life after,
Good luck!
