G-tubes and Drains with RNY

Are these the exception or more like the rule? My doctor told me about the g-tube but sounded like it was a low chance. He never mentioned a drain. I have my preop visit in the morning so I will ask about this but was curious how many folks had these tubes when they went home from the hospital.

Hope your day is great!

I had a revision lapband to RNY 9/2, I came home with G-tube and JP drain, but I expected both.  The drain was removed 5 days later, G-tube stays for three weeks.  I have not needed the G-tube for nutrition, but it was a precaution I can appreciate.  It has been an annoyance, but I guess I'll live for another week with it.   Best Wishes!

I didn't have either. IT is based on doctors preference. Mine is between old fashioned and new methods.

My doctor discussed both...I only had the drain tube for the days i was in the hospital. Pulling that drain out made me really nausish, though.

I am wondering what makes them put in a drain and where do they put one.

To be honest I don't have much to add.... I just wanted to say that I had a Band to DS Revision on 08/16/11 and I was terrified of the thought of drains and tubes... but it did not happen and I can not tell you that I could not have been happier...
