Hi All,

I had a Roux en y bypass 7 years ago.  I had lost 139 lbs and was about 35 lbs from my goal weight.  I have since gained back100 lb's and am MISERABLE.  I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about having a revision done and don't know where to start.  I live in Tampa and have Blue cross blue shield ppo.  Help please.

I would start with contacting your insurance and finding out if they pay for a revision and what kind.  Then you will know what to do next.  They should give you the names of surgeons that they cover.  Another thing to consider is an EGD to see if you have had any mechanical failures such as your stoma enlarging.
Have you been in touch with your surgeon?

Thanks for he quick response. :)

I literally thought about doing this for the first time tonight.  :)

I will definitely call my insurance in the am but, I need to find a doctor closer to me.  My surgeon is located an hour and a half away.    What is an EGD?

It's a scope they put down your throat to see what shape your pouch and stoma are in.  It is pretty painless and they give you something to relax before they do it.  That way you will know if your pouch has stretched out or the stoma has gotten too large.  That could help if your insurance requires you to show mechanical failure before they can approve a revision.

Ok, so who should I get to do this?  Do I need to get a Bariatric doctor to do it?

If you have a PCP they could probably refer you to a gastroenterologist to do it if you don't have a bariatric doc.

I am considering the ROSE revision , Restorative Obesity Surgery Endoscopic  incisionless surgery.
, but this is a option.  They are in fort meyers and naples area .  Gulf coast Bariatrics.
from what I have read , they are the only ones doing this procedure now.

Hi Elisa,

I am currently revising from RNY to DS.  I had to get a new bariatric surgeon as my old surgeon was out of my insurance network.  the following tests I had done were:  Endosopy and CT scan with and without contrast.  That way the surgeon had a clear view of my pouch and could see what is going on.

Make sure to read your policy on revisions and what are you planning to revise to?

Good luck to you on your journey.

Just a warning from what I've read the ROSE procedure is very ineffective and pretty much a waste of time and money.
