After really thinking about this again.  I have decided to change my mind about the DS and I want to get the RNY revision.  It will be the best choice for me to stop the horrible acid reflux and I help me with more weight loss, even if it will slower than a virgin RNY.

I will find out in about a couple of weeks or sooner if my insurance covers it.  I have a bmi of 35.  I have high blood pressure, Type II Diabetes and high cholesterol.  I will keep you all posted.

Thanks.

Hi,

I had a VSG done almost 6 months ago. In 2005 I had a lap band. With the VSG I have lost no weight. I have seen two nutritionist and a counselor and walk a lot. Still my weight might fluctuate up 5 or down 5 lbs. I paid cash for this. First 4k to get the band removed and then 9K more to do the VSG. Did you have the VSG and not loose any weight as well. I don't know where to do from here?  Thank you very much. I live in Austin, Tx.

Hi allpatdon3445,

I had the Lap Band back in April 2008. My insurance paid for the LB. It did not work for me.  I lost 17 lbs and gained back 14 lbs.

I had the VSG in May 2009.  I did self pay for the VSG paid around 8K.  My insurance paid for the removal of the LB.  With the VSG I lost 30 lbs and gained about 15 lbs.  It's working for me but I have a lot of acid reflux.  I have had some emotional eating issues. I'm getting some help with a therapist.  That is the main reason why I'm going with the RNY is because I will no longer have the reflux and I hope I will have some weight loss too.

Do you have insurance?  If not, I believe Medicare covers RNY.

Best Wishes to you!

I personally would rather have acid reflux than diabetes. Better than 98% of diabetics who get the DS achieve total resolution within a few weeks, some in as little as a few HOURS. And unlike the RNY, we're not seeing diabetes coome back in a few years after the DS.
