Me again, I could be going with the DS Revision instead of RNY Revision

I plan to get a revision.  I had the VSG back in 2009.  I did not lose that much weight, never reached my goal.

I have researched more about the DS.  Hopefully, I am going to get the DS.  I chose Dr. Daryl Stewart in North Texas, if he wants me to be his patient.  He has to review my medical record and decide.  He does all 4 surgeries.   It's about 4 hours away but I believe it's worth the travel.

How you are doing with your DS?  Did you reach your goal?

Also, do you have any acid reflux?
That is my problem right now with the Sleeve major acid reflux.  I have a hiatal hernia.  Plan to get that fixed and hopefully the DS at the same time.

I know that my BMI is only 37 or so.  Of course, I'm still going to see if BCBS Federal will approve it.

Thanks for your replies.

Hi SH,

Yes, I am aware of the switch being the second part of the DS.  I asked if the doctor has done the second part switch on patients before that already had the sleeve done, they said yes he has.  Yep, I'm aware of the slower weight loss, just as long it comes off, that is what matters.

I am taking Protonix for PPI.  So thanks so much for replying.

Congratulations. I know you've been struggling with your decision. Dr. Stewart is an excellent surgeon.

The traveling is a hassle, but doable. I know I mentioned begpfore I went to CA for my revision.

My weight loss is slower, but I'm only 16 pounds from my goal, so I can't complain.

Please, please, is there is anything I can do to help or support, please let me know.

I see your surgery weight was 257 lbs. and now you are 181 lbs.  Was that your surgery weight for your original surgery or this revision surgery?  That is great weight loss!!!

I sure hope I have great weight loss too!

I will sure love to have you keep in touch with me and your prayers when I have the DS surgery.

Thanks!

I don't remember my first surgical weight, but would guess it was around 280. After my RNY I stabilized at 175-180....about where I am now. I'd love to get into the 160's.;br />

When I first started looking into a revision I was told not to expect anything dramatic in terms of weight loss, so I am truly pleased and delighted. My primary goal was to deal with my diabetes.

Janine, over on the DS boards had the DS part of her WLS in May and has done really well. She generally posts on the Bites, Vites, Exercites thread that major mom (Gina) starts everyday about 6pm.

People with virgin DS 's lose a tremendous amount really fast. I don't know what to tell you to expect with yours, but. Think you'll be pleased.

Just reread your post, my weight listed here is for my revision.

When I had my VSG I was taken off the Diabetes meds.  Then I stopped losing and started gaining and the Diabetes came back.  My concern is to get off Diabetes meds and stay off.  I need to get the victory this time.  If I lose some more weight that would be an added blessing.  I know it will take longer this time.  I'm still going for it.  I will look for Janine on the DS board.

Thanks again!

I had kind of the same situation with my diabetes. I was off meds for 6 or 7 years then had to restart pills when I started regaining. Over the last 4 or 5 years the diabetes worsened, I spent a year on Byetta then on to insulin plus metformin,

Dr. N felt like I would get "some" improvement in the diabetes and would lose "some" weight. Well, I had surgery on 12/15 and my last insulin dose was on 12/17. Dr. Keshishian told me I was done with all that, but I really didn't believe him at the time.

My last A1C was less than 5.5 and I'm on no meds! That was my first goal.

Hopefully you'll have a similar experience.

Adding the Switch to your Sleeve isn't going to affect your acid reflux AT ALL. I know that at one time you were thinking about getting re-Sleeved---are you still? Because making your Sleeve smaller will only make your reflux worse.

No, I'm not going to get re-sleeved.   I do have a hiatal hernia the EGD confirmed that last Friday.  I have a followup appointment with the doctor today.  I'm going to tell her that I plan to do the DS instead.  She only does the 3 surgeries.  Dr. Stewart does all 4.   Hopefully, he  will do the DS  & will also repair the hernia for me at the same time.
