Revision from VSG to RNY feedback please
RNY on 12/27/17
I had the VSG done 2 years ago. I had lost 30 lbs and now gained 15 lbs. I never got to my goal. I know that I am an emotional eater. I am currently seeing a Therapist on this problem and other issues.
I have been suffering to with severe acid relux. I am planning to see Dr. Nelson in Moore, OK about Heartburn surgery. Was thinking about getting a revision to RNY as well. I will be seeing the doc for my first appointment pretty soon.
Just wanted to see how many out there have already done this revision. How is it working for you? Any regrets?
Thanks.

My doc does not doe the DS operation, just the sleeve. I could look into it. I will ask my new doctor when I see her. I would like the golden standard to lose the weight.
I am not sure if BCBS Federal will cover the DS either.
I heard that if you bad acid reflux the DS does not make it any better.
I do take Protonix for heartburn.
Thanks for replying.

I had acid reflux prior to surgery, and haven't had a single episode since, but I know that is not always the case. I would make sure I'd tried every possible solution to it before taking the possible drawbacks of a pouched stomach.
Also, if the new doctor does not do the DS, they will not recommend it. I've never heard of a surgeon referring a patient away.
You might want to ask on the DS board about insurance too, since many there have "been there done that" and used BCBS.

The DS is the "platinum standard" of WLS. (*grin*) Seriously, the DS has the very best long-term, maintained weight loss stats, and it's the best at resolving or preventing co-morbs likd diabetes and high cholesterol. It's cured my GERD, too, but I have an older, bigger stomach. (A lot of surgeons are making them smaller these days, and I think that's causing some GERD issues.)

Hi. I'm in south OKC, . I originally consulted Dr, Nelson about a Stomaphyix . After the EGD she recommended areision of my RNY. Atthatbpoint, my insurance changed and I had no WLS coverage.
This all led me to more research and finally a revision to a DS last December....self pay.
Dr. Nelson is excellent. But, you might at least consider the DS since you alreadybhavethe first part done. The nearest surgeon whondoes the DS is Dr. Daryl Stewart in Denton,Tx, another excellent surgeon.

Hi teachmid,
What was your first WLS? What is a Stomaphyix? I'm not sure what I'm going to do RNY or DS. I will first have to see which one would be more better for me. Also, will BCBS Federal cover it.
This is good info, I remember looking into Dr. Stewart a couple of years ago. This is when I had my lap band. Yes, I had a Lap Band in 2008, VSG in 2009. I had to do self pay with the VSG.
However, I decided to do the VSG instead.
Thanks. I will keep you posted on my outcome.
