I know everyones insurance is different but how was it for y'all to get approved by your insurance for a revision? My Dr. and her staff don't seem to anticipate any problems with my insurance but I still get worried. I really need to get this crap band out , stop puking and getting stuck and get something that will work for me. I have 2 months left on my 6 mo diet and just wonder how easy it will be, I have Cigna insurance and policy does easily cover weight loss surgery but a revision is slightly different! My original surgery was with a different insurance company.

I had Horizon BCBS NJ and had no problems. We were switching to Cigna that coming January, and I was warned that because my BMI was not 50 (it was barely 40) that I wouldn't be approved for the DS if I waited and went with Cigna. I knew that I needed to get rid of all my rny-related problems, so I made sure to have surgery in Dec.  BCBS was great.

I have been trying for over 2 years with my insurance United food and Commercial Workers (AK UFCW) through Seattle.  2 denials, and I am awaiting the decision from my appeal, I should know by the end of this month.

All insurances are different, and all patients are different.  JUST keep Trying!!!!!!

If it was not for this board and the DS board, I. Would. Have. Given. Up.  But here I am, still TRYING & FIGHTING!!!!!!

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. I was denied the first pre-auth after 14 days of waiting bc my BMI was 48 and not 50. I appealed, 10 days later, I was approved. So, it was not the easiest ride. Good luck!

Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Hi Linda- I have a band also (07) and I am trying for a revision. I have been denied twice on appeals and am appealing to the IMR. Cigna is really giving me a hard time... get ready for a fight. My problem is that since there is no "mechanical failure" of the band, I can't have it removed. Someone on this board suggested that I apply for the DS WITHOUT removal of the band (since there is nothing "wrong" with it) and then self pay to have the band removed- might perhaps cost $5000. Worth it in my book! It's better than the $30,000 for the entire self- pay for a DS! I don't know where I will go next, but we'll see! Good luck to you! Let us know what happens!
