Just had my Revision

Hello all! I am a returning OH member and hope everyone gets the end results they were looking for. In 2007 I have my RNY (lap of course). Ten months after, I weighed in at 197lbs and was feeling great. We then got pregnant. Yes I know......

After our final daughter was born I steadily and almost systematically began to gain weight. On May 15th I weighed 227lbs. This is the night before my rebirth. I have an amazing surgeon - Dr. Jawad. He resized my pouch and inserted the pericardial patch. I feel like a new RNY patient. I can feel my pouch working again. It is truly incredible.

I am hoping that whatever procedure you chose with end in the same results. Good luck to all.

Congrats! I had my original RNY in 2001 - and my revision 4/28/2011 - In less then 1 month I am down 24lbs.......I know that is quite a bit, but the weight loss seems soooo slooowwww.......I guess I want it NOW LOL.....But truly cannot complain 24 lbs in 3 1/2 weeks....40-50lbs to go...I hope I make it!

It is comforting to know that my pouch is working again. And sort of weird...because the past 5 yrs or so I have been able eat like a "normal" person. I am learning all over again...making smart choices, which I feel I did not do the 1st time. I am determined to succeed forever with this 2nd chance I have been blessed with. I hope you do too!

This is only a tool I keep reminding myself that. I need to be accountable for my choices!

My original RNY - had a "mechanical failure" my surgeon said he never saw anything like it. Plus I had LOTS of scar tissue and a hernia repair. Honestly, after the revision I feel like a new person. I have been having lots of issues the past 2 yrs......so it is a relief to feel good again!

Bless you and wishing you much success on your 2nd time around! PS: What is that patch?

Congrats to you Melissa! I am 18lbs down and almost 2 weeks out. For me I had stretched my pouch out as my surgeon put it "immensely". Nice right? Anyway, he resized it and placed the pericardial patch so I can not stretch it again.

And to you! Gosh I wish I knew about that patch....I may have considered it. I am going to ask him if he ever heard of it. Maybe he did it , he did say i shouldnt be able to stretch it out again! :o)

I am so happy to hear all this weight loss!

So glad I just ran into this page.  My surgery is in just a few hours.  I am having the same as the originator of this thread and the second responder (Melissa).  So encouraged by your words.  Hope you both are doing well!  thank you!

I'm three weeks away from my revision. Like you, I had my original surgery in 2001. I hope to do as well as you. Good luck!

Good luck to you with your up coming surgery lesm310! I am so excitied for you!  If you dont mind me asking, how much weight did you gain back? Did you have the RNY originally?

I gained back every pound I lost with my original RNY surgery. But I did keep it off for 7 years, I fell and broke my hip, that in conjuntion with having a fitsula, caused me to gain the weight. So I have been waiting for my revision for over a year.

I originally had the lap RNY in 2007 and weighed 350. In one year I got down to 197 - got pregnant and had our third daughter. Since then I was weighed in at 227 on 5/15/11. The next day I had my revision with the pericardial patch. And yes my surgeon did have to recut my existing pouch since I had stretched it immensely.
