I have an EGD Scheduled for Monday and I was wondering if  it's a painful procedure? Will I need anything special upon returning home ie...soup juice pain meds etc?I know I will be sedated but what was your experience? Thanks everybody!!

I just had one on the 2nd.  You will need a ride home.  They give you an IV, sedate you & do the procedure.  Your throat will be sore and irritated, so soft food, ice, popsicles, until the next day.

Hope that helps!!!!

It will show any problems with pouch such as stretching....issues with the stoma... ulcers etc....they can visually examine your stomach to make sure it is still in good shape and you are ready to continue your journey with proper diet and exercise!

I just had one on Friday...don't feel a thing.  The worst part is the IV!  Good luck!

I had one a couple weeks ago and it was a breeze.  I was supposed to have a ride home too, but I needed to get back to work- so I had a friend "check me out" who drove me to my car and I went back to work.  I wouldn't have driven if I didn't feel fine.  I also feel lucky, I didn't have a sore throat at all and didn't have to do anything different with my eating although they said I might need to if my throat was sore.

I don't recommend not following Dr.'s orders, but I only get so much vacation time a year and trying to conserve it.  Having to go through all these insurance hoops w/the nutritionist, psych eval, etc... I need to conserve the vacation time.

I had a Grade C esophogitus (sp?), D is the worst.  It is from the stricture I am experiencing from my VBG.  Just helps document the complications from the original surgery.
