X-Posted on the Failed weightloss messageboard as well.
Truely, I feel that my RNY failed me............... "There is no point in losing weight and then gaining it back.  This only causes enormous psychological devistation."

I was 175 pounds when I was in grade school. And 230’s in 7th-8th grade. And 260’s as a senior in high school .
Here I was over 300 pounds:

When I was 30, I had RNY (in 2002) Here are 3 years of pics with the weight difference:

I had started my weight re-gain in 2003.  I weighed 150 in May of 2003.
Here I am in October 2003:

And, as you can see below, (my mom & sis with her 1st boy, Joshua).  On my sister Debi’s b-day in 2003 or 2004.

The weight I am maintaining now, 225-230.  And have been maintaining for 7 years.
July 2009 at 230 pounds:

I hate my physical body.  HATE IT.  This is why I am continuing  my journey in exploring a revision from RNY to DS.

I understand the emotional devastation that comes with regaining the weight you lost with WLS.  I pray that you are able to get the revision you need to be healthy.

We have so many hopes and dreams when we have WLS and when we lose the weight it is as if our dreams are coming true, only to come crashing down on us as our worst fears are realized and the weight comes back.
It is a scar that stays with you even when you think you are healing, even for me and having lost weight, it comes with fear and doubt in ourselves and our ability to succeed, to be afraid to hope only to be hurt again.
Don't give up.  Your health is worth it and your dreams will come true.

Hang in there, Jamie. Don't hate yourself, don't beat up on yourself. You're doing the right thing.

I was in your shoes, truly. In high school my lowest weight was 168, a number so arbitrary that I picked it as my rny goal. I weighed 225 in the summer of 1986, after I had my son. By 2002 I was up to 335.

RNY never got me to goal. I'm a slow loser, I have a crappy metabolism and pcos. Even with very strict dieting and exercise I regained from 175 to 221. I'm really glad I went for the revision. I may never get down to a completely normal bmi, but I'm healthy, I'm happier, and I know it was something I had to do for me.

You will do this and you will succeed!

Bailymouse-

Thank YOU!!!!  I want to succeed too!!!!  It has been a long road, but it has slowly paid off, and will continue to pay off.  One of the big pay-offs for me will be having my revision surgery, whenever that will be.  But it WILL happen!!!!

It is hard not to hate my physiacl body, I struggle with that constantly.  I have HUGE body issues.... again.

Thank you for the encourging words!!!!

I'm in your same situation. I had RNY in 2005. The DS wasn't even an option for me, my insurance didn't cover it.

I've since read that it's possible to appeal your insurance and get the DS, but I didn't know that at the time.

I started out at about 240 pounds and by 2009 I was at 125 pounds. I LOVED IT!! Holy cow, I loved being thin!

But then I got put on steroid treatment (long story), a buncha bad things happened (long story) and I gained back every single friggin' pound. I'm so mad and depressed about it.

I really want to do a revision to DS. If by some miracle I can get the surgery — the surgeon says I've got to solve some of my health issues first, so I might be looking at another year before I can do it — I hope that it fixes things because it isn't as if I can keep coming in for revisions because I can't keep the weight off.

Lynda-

I understand your words of "I hope that it fixes things because it isn't as if I can keep coming in for revisions because I can't keep the weight off."

How TRUE!!!  This is my LAST SHOT.  Period.  So, I KNOW that whenever I do have my revision that I have to work HARD take off my weight, and be extra DILIGENT in maintaining my weight loss!!!!

I also hope that you have extra luck in solving your helath issues SOON, and QUICKLY, so you too can continue on your journey!!!!!

Thank YOU!!!!

I just want to say "I" think you are a lovely young lady even at your highest weight. You have a wonderful light in your eyes. Try to look at yourself lovingly because you DO deserve love no matter what your weight is. I would also bet you are a wonderful person to know! So get up every morning and say to yourself in the mirror "You are a beautiful and awesome person!" even if you don't believe it right now, you may just start believing it. Good luck on your revision!

Hislady,

Thank YOU for the Positive Affirimation!!!!  I think the positive attitude is crucial.  But sometimes I honestly find it hard to look at myself in the mirror.  Yes, I am seeing a therapist weekly, so I am working on myself.
